In March 2017, two of our Hollywood Orthopaedic Group Surgeons, Clem McCormick and Ryan Lisle, will be participating in the 2017 Youth Focus “Hawaiian Ride for Youth”. This is a charity bike ride of over 700km, from Albany to Perth. The aim of the ride is to raise much needed funds for Youth Focus which does a fantastic job of raising awareness of mental health and supporting suicide prevention in young people. This is a really important problem in society today and something they both feel passionate about. Dr Nicole Leeks is pleased to announce the addition of the Lunula Laser to her Foot and Ankle Practice. Already used extensively overseas and in the Eastern States, this is innovative technology designed to treat fungal and hypertrophic toenails. The treatment is painless and consists of four sessions performed weekly. Application time is twelve minutes per foot. Patients will be eligible for a Medicare Rebate as all treatments will be overseen and managed by Nicole. No adverse effects have been cited in the literature, unlike the known risks associated with oral anti-fungal medications. In addition, patients will have access to shoe sterilisation, using UV light whilst undergoing treatment. This kit may also be purchased for home use. Nicole is very excited to be able to offer this technology to patients as the literature results demonstrate excellent nail clearance. NICHOLAS FROST has recently joined our Team! Nic is consulting at our Private Rooms in Nedlands and is operating privately at the Hollywood Private Hospital. He also holds a Public Appointment at Royal Perth Hospital, offering both an elective orthopaedic and trauma service, where he is able to consult and treat uninsured or emergency patients. Nic studied at the University of Adelaide and moved to Perth as an Advanced Trainee in Orthopaedics. He has completed twelve months of Paediatric Orthopaedic Fellowship and a further six months of Hip and Knee Fellowship, with exposure to both joint replacement and joint preservation surgery He is available to see all patients, irrespective of their election (Private, Uninsured, Workers’ Compensation, ICWA, DVA). Both his Private and Public Waiting Lists are currently short, so he is able to see and treat patients expeditiously. He has a particular interest in dealing with Paediatric and Adolescent Hip Conditions, as well as Adult Complications of Childhood Hip Disease. “HOG supports RYAN LISLE participating in the 2016 HAWAIIAN RIDE FOR YOUTH” This is Ryan’s first time at “donning the lycra” to participate in the “2016 Hawaiian Ride for Youth”, a Youth Focus fundraising event involving around 150 cyclists, riding just under 700kms from Albany to Perth, from 5-9 April 2016. Cyclists will be stopping at various schools along the way to speak to students about how to approach depression and anxiety, look after each other and ensure that they are aware of the services Youth Focus provides. Ryan urges you to put aside any deep-seated negative feelings you may harbour towards cyclists (and try and move on from the disturbing mental image of him in lycra!!) and consider donating to this very worthwhile cause. “The Hollywood Orthopaedic Group welcomes RYAN LISLE to the Team!” Ryan is consulting in our Private Rooms at the Hollywood Medical Centre in Nedlands and operates privately at the Hollywood Private Hospital. He holds a Public Appointment at Princess Margaret Hospital for Children. He regularly consults and operates in the Pilbara Region, visiting Port Hedland and Karratha. More about Ryan: Ryan was born and raised in Perth. He studied medicine at the University of Western Australia. After commencing his Orthopaedic Training in Victoria, he returned to Western Australia to complete his Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons in 2013. Subsequently, Ryan undertook two additional years of Subspecialty Training in paediatrics and Arthroscopic Surgery. Ryan’s interest in Paediatrics led him to complete the internationally recognised Paediatric Fellowship at the Royal Children’s Hospital in Melbourne. He then travelled to Sydney, where he worked with Dr Justin Roe at the North Sydney Orthopaedic and Sports Medicine Centre, focusing on arthroscopic and reconstructive knee surgery. Ryan then spent a year in Vancouver, Canada, where he completed further training in arthroscopic surgical techniques through the University of British Columbia.
