A popular destination for locals and visitors to Murwillumbah, Tweed Regional Gallery & Margaret Olley Art Centre offers stunning, panoramic views of the Tweed Valley and presents an engaging program of exhibitions, activities and events.  The Tweed Regional Gallery & Margaret Olley Art Centre is housed in a large, modern, architecturally award-winning building with views to Wollumbin/Mount Warning. The Gallery was relocated to this site in 2004 and extended in 2006. The Margaret Olley Art Centre opened as a purpose-built extension in 2014.

The Gallery’s seven exhibition spaces present a dynamic program of historical to contemporary touring exhibitions, alongside exhibitions showcasing the work of regional, national and international artists presented exclusively at the Tweed Regional Gallery. The program includes the $20,000 Olive Cotton Award for photographic portraiture. An extensive collection of portraits representing Australia’s diverse community is a highlight of the Gallery’s permanent collection. Visitors can participate in a range of complementary public programs and workshops catering for all ages and abilities. The Gallery also includes a workshop and education space, research library, the Gallery Shop and the Gallery Café (www.tweedgallerycafe.com.au) with indoor and outdoor seating.

The Margaret Olley Art Centre (MOAC) celebrates the career, life and legacy of Margaret Olley, Australia’s most celebrated painter of still life and interiors. MOAC combines exhibitions, interactives and the permanent re-creation of areas of Olley’s famous home studio. MOAC is complemented by the Nancy Fairfax Artist in Residence Studio, a space dedicated to the continuation of Olley’s commitment to supporting artists and fostering creativity.

The Tweed Regional Gallery and Margaret Olley Art Centre is a Tweed Shire Council Community facility, supported by Create NSW, the Friends of Tweed Regional Gallery and Margaret Olley Art Centre Inc., the Tweed Regional Gallery Foundation Ltd., and private donations.

There’s no need to be scared of the Art Gallery Guard this summer… Our Gallery Education and Audience Development Officer (and mother of two) Jodi shares her top tips for your visit to the Gallery with the kids: • Talk about what kind of behaviour is expected in the Gallery before you arrive - no running, touching or yelling. Walking and talking about art is OK! • Ask them questions: “Do you like this artwork – why or why not?” or “What would you call this artwork if you made it?” • Give them a task as part of their visit. For example, they could pop on their ‘art judge hat’ and choose their favourite work or see how many artworks they can find with animals or fruit in them. • Pack a picnic to enjoy outdoors to break up your visit or grab some lunch or refreshments at the Gallery Café. • Make use of the pencils, activity templates and clipboards available in the Foyer, pick up the fantastic MOAC Kids Guide and allow plenty of time for the kids to use the iPads in MOAC. Why not have a go yourself? IMAGE: Alasdair Macintyre, 'K.R. Ankypantz: Senior Custodial Public Liaison Interface Officer' 2016, polystyrene, resin, plastic acrylic, acrylic paint

What a year it has been! In 2017 the Gallery presented 26 new exhibitions. Memorable moments included our major ‘Portraits’ exhibition with not one but two Archibald winning portraits of Margaret Olley, highlight exhibitions by Joshua Yeldham, David Fairbairn and Brett Whiteley, and of course our first international exhibition by the one and only David Hockney. In 2017 we hosted 17 artists in residence. Our Gallery Guides presented more than 350 guided tours and we welcomed 97 bus groups and over 830 school students to the Gallery. And who could forget rising before dawn for the spectacular live broadcast of the TODAY show from our site? For many of us, reflection on 2017 brings memories of our tragic flood disaster in April. As a community we have survived, and we will continue to rebuild and look to the future. 2018 marks the 30th anniversary of Tweed Regional Gallery from its first incarnation in an historic building in Murwillumbah. It will be a chance for more reflection, celebration and there will be some amazing exhibitions, events and activities in 2018 to bring our community together. On behalf of the Gallery team, we thank you all for your support this year.
