“If we work together, how can we use technology to make the world a better place?” Luke wanted to combine his love of video games with a desire to help people, which led him to #ThinkMurdoch for his Computer Science and Games Technology degree. Another congrats is in order for our School of Engineering and Information Technology! Following their national recognition at the iAwards in September, the FlexiBrains project team has now won the merit award in the Tertiary Student category at the Asia Pacific ICT Alliance Awards in Taiwan. Well done to all students and staff involved in this award-winning IT project. FlexiBrains is a web-based application that was developed to help rehabilitate stroke survivors. While technology keeps changing how we consume info and entertainment, research between Murdoch and Deakin Universities has found that the majority of Aussie teens still prefer a good old fashioned printed book, over a digital version, when reading for fun. Congrats to Murdoch graduate Dalibor Borkovic for being recognised as WA's most talented IT student for 2016! Dalibor was presented with the Australian Computer Society’s 1962 prize for his exemplary problem solving skills and ability to systematically solve IT issues. The prize adds to his achievements at Murdoch, as he also won the University medal, and shared the Jim Ellis Prize for Best IT graduate. Since graduating with a Bachelor of Science (majoring in Internetworking and Security, as well as Cyberforensics, Information Security and Management), Dalibor is now ensuring critical business systems and cyber security are maintained at a global firm. In an Australian first, our pre-service teachers are able to benefit from virtual reality, thanks to TeachLivE. The virtual reality program gives students the chance to practice their classroom management skills earlier in their training, so they’re more prepared and confident when completing their practical placements within schools.
