Sharon, 58 for Testimonial Thursday 💪 "My three class experience started with Strength Flow which awakened my body, warmed up my muscles and focused my mind with low impact, smooth flowing movement. My second class, Barre, was higher impact, more challenging, and harder working for the body. I found a stronger focus on the movement with me being able to work harder and deeper than usual. I also found more strength within my body and greater stillness in my balance due to the first class providing a longer warm up for the body to get the maximum out of the class. My third class, Yin Yoga, was a deep stretching of the muscles, wonderfully rewarding, with a lengthening and opening of my body through very slow movement. This class worked on my mind with stillness and refocusing, guidance, warmth and positivity. In some ways I found this the most challenging of the three classes. For me, the three class program is a complete body-mind experience with Jayde giving me the confidence in her knowledge, positioning, and correcting my placement. She provides modifications of my movement to work to the best of my ability with injuries and to push me to gain more when I am becoming comfortable with the movement. I always look forward to this program. It is a treatment and a reward for my body and mind; not just exercise. Thank you Jayde. I have loved your Barre classes for a couple of years now. This three class experience has just elevated my enjoyment of moving my body." No matter what, Sharon attends as many classes as she possibly can when I am located in Mount Gambier. Through knee injuries, six births, a twisted pelvis, and arthritis, Sharon works with me to ensure she can still attend and gain the most out of her practice. She would be one of my strongest clients! At 58, Sharon is strong and flexible, really epitomising Joseph Pilates quote "If your spine is inflexibly stiff at 30, you are old. Who is this Jayde person??? I want to take the time to share a little about myself, my history, my qualifications, and my passions. To start at the beginning, I grew up in Mount Gambier. I began dancing at Mount Gambier Calistheics Club at age three. I moved to MJ Dance Studio at age seven, where my love of Contemporary dance evolved. I attended both Footsteppes and Synergy Dance Studio's, as well as completing my final two years of Classical Ballet training at Maryke Dance Academy. Dance in all its forms was an enormous part of my childhood and adolescence. I was shortlisted for the prestigious Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts, taking this as a sign to pursue my academic career instead of performance. I attended Mount Gambier High School where I was involved with the musical Footloose, participated in Year 12 Dance when I was in year 10, and choreographed and performed in the 2006 musical, Fame. I was extremely academic throughout my formative years, gaining me entry into any degree I wished. This path lead me to the University of South Australia. Since 2009, I have been completing a double degree in Bachelor of Pharmaceutical Science / Bachelor of Pharmacy (Honours). I have taken time away from study numerous times, and approached it in both full time and part time manners. Approaching study this way enabled me to work within Community Pharmacy. Time away took me to Rockhampton where I was running a small Pharmacy. It was an incredible experience that I am exceptionally grateful for. This year, I have completed the Bachelor of Pharmaceutical Science, and have decided to pursue my instructing passion through more teaching opportunities and study. Throughout my university studies I have taken time to learn about myself on emotional, psychological, and physical basis. I believe as a society we do not take the time, or put in the necessary work to learn and heal, to grow as individuals. This individual growth only occurs when you truly become in touch with yourself, your past, present and future. One avenue that I needed to explore was to find an outlet for my passion of dance, and extensive training and dedication. It was through Clinical and Reformer Pilates, along with Bikram Yoga, TRX and Tabata training, that I found this outlet. I completed my Certificate III and IV in Fitness during 2008 under my ongoing mentor Duncan Kirk at Kirk Health Solutions. Following this, I attended training for THUMP Boxing, and pursued other areas of interest. In 2011, I attended my first Clinical Pilates session at Inner Strength Pilates & Barre. I fell in LOVE with Pilates! I had participated in Pilates earlier. However that was mainly mat pilates. From training at this highly successful studio in Adelaide, Barre classes began. I was approached to become an instructor, and the rest has become LOVE! I was trained at Inner Strength Pilates & Barre, including beginning my Clinical Pilates Certification. Due to a health decline, I was unable to continue my employment here. However I maintain a high regard for the studio and the high level of training all the instructors provide their clients. After some time away from instructing, I offered classes to Mount Gambier during the Summer of 2014/2015. From there, Powerhouse Pilates Barre became a vision. I then trained in another brand of Barre, Xtend Barre, and instructed classes at another highly regarded studio in Adelaide, Southside Clinic. This gorgeous clinic offers Osteopathy, Clinical Pilates, Yoga, Nutrition, and Xtend. I only remained with the Clinic for a short period due to other commitments. However my respect for the clinic remains very high. The professionals within the clinic will truly look after your wellbeing. So as you can see, I have a strong background in health. I am currently completing a Certificate IV in Pilates and will move into a Diploma in Clinical Pilates afterward. I am teaching Core and More at Bikram Yoga and Yin Yoga Glenelg and Modbury, and will begin instructing Yin Yoga next month. I am enjoying developing my skills and knowledge of both Pilates and Yoga. I cannot wait to share the information with the Community. My long term goal is to have a team of allied health professionals working collaboratively within one venue, to provide an environment of relaxation and escape, whilst finding complete health solutions. I truly LOVE instructing and sharing health education with everyone. Too often health professionals assume clients and patients do not want to gain an in depth understanding. However working within two portions of the industry, I find this is rarely true. If you give a little more compassion, empathy, and knowledge than you feel necessary, most clients and patients respond exponentially, feeling grateful for the extra information and care. Moving your body through Barre, is an incredible way to learn an enormous amount about yourself, emotionally, psychologically, and physically. It is a fantastic gift to give yourself. Learning and growing through knowledge and experience would definitely be one of my favourite things to do 🙏 I am currently on a yin yoga journey, deepening my understanding to provide the best service to my beautiful clients and grow my repertoire of skills and knowledge. Growing and learning - one of my most important values. This would be one of my favourite asanas (postures) 👌 Anahatasana Melting Heart ❤ It is a lovely backbend for the upper and middle back, whilst opening the shoulders and softening the heart. The compression through the spine effects the urinary bladder energy path, stretching through the chest stimulates the stomach and spleen meridians, whilst juicing up the arm nadis, namely the heart and lung lines. For my specific skeletal and muscular system, I can truly relax in this asana 🙏 In any posture, it's important to move within your range and listen to the sensations within your body, then adjust accordingly. A beautiful Yin practice is a wonderful complement to any Yang movement done within your usual routine - this includes our everyday lives as our lives tend to be thoroughly yang dominated. For optimal health, balance between the Yin and Yang lifestyles, tissues, and thoughts is essential 🙏 Food for thought on this Thursday morning 🤔🙏
Hump Day Glute Focused Movements 🍑 Always remember to correctly engage the abdominals - ribs knitting together, relaxing towards the pelvis, belly button drawing into the spine, waist cinching, pelvic floor lifting. Be sure to slide the scapula down the back trying to get them into the back pockets, creating space between the shoulders and ears, stabilising. Lift up out of the hips when performing exercise one. Single leg lifts, followed by two pulses forward before drawing the leg back, connecting through the glute and hamstring, not arching the lumbar spine. Hold for small pulses squeezing the arm and leg together as if a resistance is between them. For exercise two, maintain pelvis stability, stacking the hips, pushing the top hip towards your feet to prevent collapsing through the obliques. Internally rotate the top leg, taking it slightly back to be in line with the body. Relax the foot. It is not about height, it is about the internal rotation to work the outside of the leg. For the next variation, knees meet, then toes kiss. It is an up and over motion. Maintain stability through the pelvis. Final exercise, donkey leg, lift the belly button away from the mat, and imagine you have headlights on both hips that have to face the floor. Send the energy through the heel. Small movements only. Fantastic glute burn 🔥🔥🔥 Sped up 2x and all exercises can be performed without ankle weights for modification. 2kg ankle weights added here for a challenge 💪
