Unspun Honey
Description
Unspun Honey is a small apiary based in Mount Gambier, South Australia. I sell artisan, hand crafted honey from ethically and organically raised bees. My hives are distributed between about a dozen apiaries around the Mt Gambier region. I keep my hives close to urban environments to maximize the floral diversity available as forage, and to cut down on transportation costs when I'm doing inspections. Ethical treatment of livestock (and bees are livestock when we keep them in hives) is important to me, and helps me sleep better at night. In my case this means I go out of my way to make sure my bees aren't unduly stressed just so I can make an extra buck.
I am also a scientist, with a Master's degree and a background in pathobiology, and I read a lot of scientific journals. I regularly blog about relevant beekeeping science.

This weekend Unspun Honey will be back at the Mt Gambier library market. While the unique, single-hive harvest #terroir #honey will still be front and centre, I am also bringing a selection of toffee, caramels and brittles using that same honey, made collaboratively with Kirby Shearing of #soulprojects!

10/14 #queen grafts on this bar. Pretty excited that I'm getting better at this! Practice makes perfect. Queens are from 100% hygienic stock selected from my three most docile, productive hives.

Back in business! I'll be crushing #honey this next week and getting back to the markets for February 11th. My bees have discovered the summer #Bloodwood.
I'm back in the land of sun and honey. Just did a quick check of one of my apiaries and all the ladies seemed to be doing just fine without my interference, and I should be back at market with fresh honey in a couple of weeks - stay tuned!
Heads up! I'm in Canada for the next couple of weeks. Bees and honey will be back in January. If you need advice on bees feel free to message me over the holidays but my response time will probably be slower.
Just a quick thank you to everyone who braved the rain today at the Mt Gambier Farmers Market. I had a great day despite the weather. If you missed me, don't worry - I'll be back next weekend!
