Our own Dr Kate Jacobs is teaming up with highly regarded educational specialist Karen Starkiss to deliver this practical workshop for school staff including principals, senior managers, teachers & student support services (psychologists and speech pathologists). This workshop will help school senior managers, teachers and SSSOs work together to 1. Identify students at risk for learning difficulties BEFORE they fail, 2. Intervene effectively with tiered support for those with more significant learning needs, and 3. Identify students whose learning difficulties are the result of a specific learning disorder (SLD) such as dyslexia. The Response to Intervention (RTI) Model significantly improves student achievement; in turn promoting better learning and mental health outcomes for all students. Research looking at how psychological reports are used to support students experiencing learning difficulties. We are seeking three groups of people to participate in this research: 1. Parents who, at some point, have received a psychological report on their child who has experienced learning difficulties 2. Teachers who have had experience reading a psychological report for a student experiencing learning difficulties, and 3. Psychologists who have experience writing psychological reports for students experiencing learning difficulties. It is hoped that this research will provide greater insight into how, if at all, stakeholders use reports and the impact, if any, this has on supporting children who experience difficulties in their learning. If you would like to participate you can complete the survey (which should take about 20 minutes) here: https://tinyurl.com/y9f7vc8d Participants will have the option to go into a draw to win 1 of 3 $100 Coles/Myer vouchers. This project is being conducted by Ka Leng Lei and Stephen Campbell, under the supervision of Dr Kate Jacobs and Joanne Lindelauf, as part of their 4th year thesis in the Faculty of Education at Monash University. The study has ethics approval from Monash University Human Research Ethics Committee.
We are often asked about the tests we use for our assessments. Here's an overview of the more common tests used when assessing for learning difficulties.
