One year ago today I started my own business SALT (Salli Alderson Luxury Travel). It has been an amazing 12 months involving a lot of hard work but at the same time it has been extremely rewarding. I have travelled extensively during this time and am so lucky that I am in a position to do this . It is to me a dream job, something I have created and am proud of. There have been so many people that have helped me a long the way, my family, friends, colleagues, everyone at Smartflyer and most importantly my clients who are so loyal and have put their trust in me. A big THANK YOU to all of you. I am looking forward to the next decade!

The world has very few secrets left but I think Bhutan may be one of them. Reflecting on the last 8 days I have spent in this magical Kingdom, I can now see why it is known as the happiest place in the world. Surrounded by the majestic Himalayas it has an atmosphere that exudes peacefulness. On telling people I was travelling to Bhutan, very few knew where it was. That says something! So without wanting to spoil this sacred place , I feel the need to share some photos. I travelled with Norman from "And Beyond". We had previously travelled to Kenya together. The And Beyond team on the ground were as fabulous as they were in Kenya, the guides incredibly knowledgeable. Also travelling with us was Elliott from Aman and we stayed in 2 of the 5 Aman lodges in Bhutan which were incredible, fusing rustic elegance with contemporary design, the Paro lodge was set in a forest just outside town. The other and my favourite in Thimphu the capital. The highlight was hiking to the Tigers Nest Monastery, the birthplace of Buddhism. Climbing to over 3000m was challenging but worth the views. On entering with our prayer flags that we hand made the night prior, we were blessed by a monk. My 5th blessing on the trip! He did have a mobile phone which interrupted the blessing at one stage! I am yet to find somewhere in the world where this doesn't happen!

After a 7hr drive on a very bumpy road with some hair raising moments, but beautiful scenery to distract...we arrived in Gangtey to a very warm welcome! Gangtey is about 3000m above sea level and known to be one of the most beautiful parts of Bhutan... I am looking forward to some trekking tomorrow.

I am currently in Thimphu the capital of Bhutan, surrounded by the beautiful snow capped Himalayas. A place that has been on my bucket list for a long time. It is more beautiful than i imagined. Bordering northern India and Tibet it has a strong sense of culture and tradition like no other country I have visited.
