Its all happening tonight people. Reel Abrupt Film Festival starts at 5pm this evening. Not only will you get to feast your senses with the film making skills of some amazing creators, you will also get to bid on some amazing art work by local and interstate artists. One of whom is Lismore's very own Ms Browns Lounge aka Joanna Kambourian of Lismore Art Space. 'Jo's work reflects an investigation into contemporary manifestations of personal, cultural and social identity. The stories are told via pattern, design, collage, illustration and often include alternate personas, voices & characters that emerge from this narrative and delight in the potential of difference, revel in absurdity…' You can find more info about Jo and her work at her website. Come along and check it out. Its not too late to get your tickets. See you there!
Tomorrow evening you guys will have the opportunity to bid on the work of Kate Hallen. Once a local resident, she has now moved north to QLD and is travelling down especially to add to the vibe of Reel Abrupt Film Festival. 'I have always surrounded my life with creative pursuits, I enjoy sharing my visions and expressions with others to open up a platform of conversation. I am interested in how audiences can respond to themes, which resonate through their diverse experiences. I am an emerging artist, born in Australia. I am interested in paint and its immersive qualities for both viewer and artist. Painting is an act of honing in and out of focus constantly. I get lost within the doing; fixating on details and stepping back to see their entirety. To paint, is to discover.' To find out more about Kate and her practice you can check out her website, or you can buy tickets to the event tomorrow night and engage with her in person.
This weekend at Reel Abrupt Film Festival - the BAG silent auction will feature the work of KiKi - Ki Ki (aka Erica Gully) is an art history graduate come visual arts high school teacher (and now graphic designer) who studied at university in both Sydney and then at Lismore's very own SCU where she majored in print making. 'My arts practice is reflective of my love of all things printmaking, exploring themes related to personal relationships and the dichotomy of public vs private. My current love is exploring the process driven world of stencilling, I relish the challenge of creating a multilayered piece from a pencil sketch and watching it take form. I'm enjoying the local street art scene as a proud member of the Back Alley Gallery collective. I never take myself too seriously!'

Thank you to everyone that came down to Lismore Quadrangle yesterday to help us build our cardboard city!! We had such a great day and loved seeing all your creative energy. We'd also like to thank Peggy Popart for bringing her vibrancy along. The Lismore Regional Gallery were kind enough to let us use their space to showcase some of the creations that were made - so drop down and have a look. A big shout out to YWCA NSW Northern Rivers for coordinating this great event, which was aimed at highlighting how important strong communities are for the safety and wellbeing of our children! It is such an important message and we were pleased as punch to be able to contribute.
This amazing event is happening next weekend folks. We are so excited to see what the creatives of Lismore come up with and we are sure you are too. Buy your tickets - looking forward to seeing ALL of you there!
