The rice industry is currently awaiting an announcement from the NSW government as to whether or not the current Rice Vesting Arrangements will be extended, and, if so, for how long. “The Rice Vesting and export arrangements underpin the operation and viability of the New South Wales rice industry” said RGA President Mr Jeremy Morton. “In turn, the rice industry plays a significant role in supporting businesses and communities across the Riverina. Without vesting, the local rice industry would be structured very differently - hence the RGA’s position on rice vesting could not be considered lightly.” Read more here: http://www.rga.org.au/f.ashx/RGA-Media-Release-The-RGA-awaits-a-Rice-Vesting-Review-announcement_6.12.16.pdf

RGA STRONGLY SUPPORTS A 15% BACKPACKER TAX We strongly supports a 15% backpacker tax, said Executive Director Graeme Kruger. Right now the backpacker community needs certainty as much as our farmers do on this issue. Backpackers should not pay less tax than those on the Seasonal Worker Program. A 15% backpacker tax rate looks after both the job seeker and the farmer. We believe that the rate of 15 % is fair, internationally competitive and recognises the unique nature of seasonal work in Australia.
