Check out Alec having his first crack at the 5x tables "Wishy's Way" minus the bank-roll 💰 💰 I'm currently putting together a comprehensive blog on teaching/learning times tables, stay tuned (it's less than a week away). Preparing for that I took this video last week with Alec to show one way my boys learnt their times tables. They had to say them forwards backwards and answer 5 'randoms'. If they got them right, with no 'hesitation' then they collected. 2x = $2, 3x = $3, 4x = $4, 5x = $5, 6x = $6, 7x = $7, 8x = $8, 9x = $9, 10x = $1, 11x = $11 and 12x = $12. The family rules were: - you only get paid once for a particular times table. Once you "get" the $7 for your sevens for example the 7s are done and dusted, move onto the next one (I kept a notebook as those in the know would tell you I'm very forgetful) - no crying or sulking if you don't get the money (we had some close calls 😂) - you can only go for a particular times tables once per day.... if you fail, you have to wait until the next day to try again (funnily enough, this just made them practice more) - times tables have to be known automatically, there could be no stalling or delay in response - Mum is the sole decision maker (no correspondence will be entered into 😂) Even more funnily, my youngest son (who would have been lucky to be 4 at the time) came down stairs while one of his brothers was "going for his tables" and asked if he could do his times tables too. Being a kind loving positive perfect mother, I said "no, you don't know your times tables". His face fell and he said "yes I do, I know my 2s". I reluctantly agreed (with a roll of the eyes) and away he went. Darned if he didn't do his 2s forwards backwards and he answered 5 randoms perfectly. Knock me over. I handed over the $2. Just goes to show how much they pick up from environment and that money talks 😂😂😂 The blog has heaps of ideas, tips, games plus free downloads. Hopefully I'll have it finished by Friday. I'll post it on Facebook when it's complete. Must say, it's thanks to Nat Roberts who spurred me on with a query last year wanting times table ideas.

Raymond Ellis Elementary School

Innovative. You just never know, if you know one child with Autism then you know just one child with Autism. If you know more than one child with Autism then you'd know there's no one-size fits all sensory profile. This might be a solution for some kids.

Who would have thought a logic game for 5yrs+ would have us all gathered around "helping" and even using a little maths reasoning after family dinner last night. This time I took home #thinkfun Balance Beans from the shop. We ❤️ their logic games...once you have them out kids (and adults, it seems) can't help but join in. Perfect for family time - the home, van, holiday, travel. Perfect for school - for early finishers, for those kids who need a challenge, for visual-spatial thinkers but not necessarily great readers and for the STAFFROOM (why should the teachers miss out?). Perfect for preschool and family day care if you're looking for something they could do on their own or in pairs especially if they need a bit extra.
