The Retina Centre
Description
Dr Saf Bassili and his team at The Retina Centre provide specialist medical and surgical services for the treatment of all aspects of retinal disease. Our Initiative & Vision:
Age Related Macular Degeneration and Diabetic Retinopathy are the leading causes of blindness in the western world. With the increasing ageing population in Australia, the prevalence of these conditions is on the rise, with many people in our community not diagnosed early enough to stop the late outcome of legal blindness. Early detection is key to preventing this outcome. Our aim is to provide a free initial consultation and OCT retina screening with no out- of- pocket cost to new patients. We also aim to make treatment more affordable to those who need it. Our goal is to eventually make treatment available at no charge to patients and we will work hard to achieve that vision in the near future.
Our Team:
Dr Saf Bassili has been providing Ophthalmology services for over two decades at the Northern Eye Centre and The Retina Centre. He obtained his Ophthalmology training in England and at the Eye & Ear Hospital. This was followed by two fellowships in Melbourne and New Orleans, USA. Saf is an accomplished surgeon with many years of experience and specialises in Cataract and Vitreoretinal surgery.
Mr Amir Shenouda is our optometrist who graduated from Melbourne and has a particular interest in investigations of macular disease.
Ms Natalie Costa is our chief orthoptist who is an accomplished retina photographer and cataract assessment expert.
What We Do:
Along with our current services like cataract surgery provided at the Northern Eye Centre, we have launched The Retina Centre to provide full management to patients with medical and surgical retinal conditions. It is fully equipped with diagnostic equipment such as Fundus Fluorescein Angiography (FFA) and Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT). It provides in house treatment including retinal laser photocoagulation, anti VEGF injections and Photo Dynamic Therapy. We also provide surgery for all retinal conditions such as retinal detachment, macular holes, epiretinal membrane and diabetic retinopathy.
Our Philosophy:
Our patients are our first priority. We work tirelessly to offer them the latest standard of care. This is achieved by continuously updating our knowledge and expertise. We regularly bring in new technology that helps to improve the diagnosis and treatment of various eye conditions.
