On the 16th October three of our SPASM members visited the Anaesthetic Harry Baily Museum in Walker St North Sydney for an excellent day of Anaesthetic historical education. * * * Later this month on the 26th November The Australian and New Zealand Society of the History of Medicine are presenting an afternoon seminar at the Dixon Room in the State Library of NSW Macquarie Street. If you are interested in: The history of convicts in the Rum Hospital, Epidemics in the metropolis, filling Sydneys cemeteries, or Historical resources at the State Library you might like to attend. Cost is $15.00 or $10 if a Friend of the Library or ANZSHM member. See their web sites for further details. * * * One of our undergraduate nurses attending her Peri-operative elective placement visited the SPASM museum last week. She was amazed at the changes to anaesthetic equipment in the last 50 years she could appreciate because of our exhibits, and the similarity of many general surgical instruments during the same time span. If you would like to arrange a visit for students please get in touch and we would be delighted to arrange it.
SPASM is open on Saturday 10th September at 1030 and again on Saturday 17th September at 12midday for the AGM.
This Saturday we had a very successful viewing. The Nepean Probus group had 19 visitors who all reportedly enjoyed themselves. Thank you so much for choosing our venue for a day out . Next Monday 22nd August we are unable to be open at SPASM apologies to anyone if this is inconvenient.
Lots of activity in the last couple of weeks. We had a very successful open day today. Although a couple of people who were coming didn't make it. Hope all is well? We have opened up a new viewing area for dental instruments and sterilising equipment. We also were donated a lovely book case & we nurses would like to set it up as a reference library for old nursing texts. I'm hoping to source a complete copy of Forceps journals. So If anyone has any they would like to donate? Please let me know.
