Beacon Foundation – Careers on Wheels Today, our Year 8 students participated in a ‘Careers on Wheels’ expo. Our students were exposed to a variety of local career pathways through positive interactions with our local business representatives. It was also great to have Reece High School's Year 8 students join us as we enjoy working alongside them to expose our students to career learning opportunities. The business representatives parked their work vehicles on the school grounds and utilise visual aids and props to help explain what they do in their every day jobs. A huge thank you again to Mel Blake from Beacon for all your hard work in putting all of this together and also to the following businesses for taking the time out of your busy work day to speak to our students: Business & Employment, Cummins South Pacific, Dairy Tas, Devonport 7AD Radio/SeaFM, Edgewater (TT-Line), Get Smart Hairdressing, Greater Nutrition, Hydro Tasmania, Malangenna Children's Centre, MyState, North West Community Legal Centre, One Agency Collins Real Estate, Possability, Serve Ag, Stornoway, Tasmanian Hospitality Association (THS), Tas Fire Service, TasBGAS, Tasmanian Police, TasRail, The Advocate, The Island Creative and Youth, Family and Community Connections
11/12 Transition - Don College The next step is for interested parents and students to attend an information night held here at Devonport High School tonight starting at 6.30pm. The information night will be held in the Year 11 & 12 hub (Student Lounge) and entrance is via William Street (eastern grounds). This information session is to find out general information from Don College staff about Years 11 & 12, certification options, University entrance, VET programs and to ask questions about how the college environment works. Devonport High School staff will also be able to inform parents of study options for Year 11.
Last week, all Year 9 students participated in ‘Polish - Work Readiness’ workshops facilitated by Karli Franks and Mel Blake from the Beacon Foundation. The students over the 4 days put their skills and personal brand to the test over a luncheon to a range of Mentors from local businesses and industries. A massive thank you to: James McCormack (Department of Employment), Nathan Whittle (Devonport 7ad/SeaFM Radio), Jacci McDougall (Devonport City Council), Leah McRae (Simplot Australia), John Perkins (Latrobe Council), Rod Bramich (BridgePro Engineering), Romy Lucas (MyState), Jess Bennett (SeaFM Tas), Georgie Jacobson (Simplot Australia), Gina Harvey (Hydro Tasmania), Tegan Curle (Devonfield Enterprises) and Daryl Connelly (Switch Tasmania) for giving up your time to work alongside our students.
