The Deniliquin Local Area Command is located in the south western portion of the state of New South Wales and is bordered in the east by Albury LAC, in the south by the state of Victoria, in the west by Barrier LAC and to the north by Griffith LAC.

The Deniliquin Local Area Command encompasses the Deniliquin, Mathoura, Moama, Finley, Tocumwal, Barooga, Berrigan, Jerilderie, Moulamein, Barham, Balranald, Hay and Euston Police Stations and the Local Government areas of Deniliquin, Conargo, Hay, Murray, Berrigan, Balranald, Wakool, and Jerilderie.

DESCRIPTION

The Deniliquin Local Area Command is 59,209 square kilometres in size and can be described as being approximately 250 kilometres north to south and 450 kilometres wide east to west. The Murray River on the southern boundary of the LAC has numerous crossing points and these points contribute to the volume of traffic travelling through the LAC via three major highways, north south via the Newell and Cobb Highways, and east west via the Sturt Highway.

There is a major tourist focus on the Tocumwal to Moama section of the Murray River. With tourism the area is diverse from arid desert to lush riverland areas with industries and agriculture consisting mainly of rice, wheat, citrus, dried fruits, wool, beef and dairy cattle, gypsum mining, wine, timber and transport. Deniliquin has the largest rice mill in the Southern Hemisphere and is the centre of Australia’s merino stud sheep industry.

What is the Next of Kin Program? • The NOK program is free and enables persons living alone to record their details at their local police station. • The program is electronic and holds information of your nominated NOK, doctors and dentist details. • The information assists the ambulance and police in an emergency situation. • The registered person is provided with a key ring. • Each registered person will receive a generated number which will correlate to computer records held by NSWP. Moama – Stealing Between 10.30pm Thursday 1 March and 8.00am Friday 2 March unknown persons have entered a local caravan park in Moama and have removed the cover from the victims vessel. The unknown offenders have stolen a black backpack, Maveric Pro Drone, Go Pro Hero 3 and a Talen men’s bicycle. It is believed that two males who were approached in the park about 1.00am by some guests are responsible for the stealing offence. The males are described as being dressed in black hoodies, dark pants and were about 5’ 9’’ tall. If you are aware of these items trying to be sold in the Moama/Echuca area please contact Moama Police Station. Deniliquin – Man arrested for random drug test About 3.20pm Saturday 3 March Deniliquin Police arrested a 35 year old Deniliquin man for failing a road side drug test. He was stopped driving in Poictiers Street. He was taken to Deniliquin Police Station where he underwent a secondary drug test. Police released the male and are now awaiting further test results before proceeding to legal process. On Friday 2 March at 10.45am police also stopped a 45 year old Deniliquin man on Harfleur Street. He also failed a random drug test. He was subjected to a secondary drug test at Deniliquin Police Station which he failed. His licence was suspended and he was released pending the confirmation for further tests. Hay – Police support Rainbow on the Plains and Mardi Gras At 6.30 pm on Friday the 2nd of March 2018, Police from Hay attended the Rainbow on the Plains launch at the Hay Golf Club. This event was held to mark the beginning of the first annual Hay Mardi Gras and was conducted by the organisation Acon. Police attended the function along with 65 other community leaders, including the Member for Farrer Sussan LEY, sponsors, members of the committee, Hay Shire employees and young people associated with the event. The event continued on Saturday with Hay Police officers again supporting the event by marching in the parade along Lachlan Street. Moama – Suspicious Fire, Graham Street, Moama About 8.00pm Saturday 3 March 2018 Moama Police and NSW Fire & Rescue Officers were called to a Graham Street factory after reports of the factory being well alight. Police and a large contingent of NSW and Victorian Fire platoons attended to fight the blaze. It was not until about 11.30pm that the fire was declared under control. Damage caused by the fire included total destruction of a number of vehicles, trailers, a B-double truck, a large amount of wooden pallets and surrounding bushland. Initial investigations by Police and Fire Officers have deemed the fire as suspicious. Police maintained a crime scene guard overnight after which the scene was examined by Detectives and Forensic Services Group Police Officers. Around 3:35pm on Tuesday 27 February 2018 a 13 year old female was walking along Chanter Street, Berrigan. As she was walking near the ‘Peppertree’ variety store a male driving a white coloured Transit van or similar stopped and said to the teenager, “Do you want to get in?” The teenager walked away to a nearby store. The male is described as being Caucasian, approximately 30 years of age, with a long beard and a shaved head. Police are urging anyone that saw a vehicle or the male matching the description in Berrigan this afternoon or any Berrigan residents upon Chanter Street who may have CCTV or any motorists in the area around that time who have Dash Cam footage to contact Deniliquin Police Station on 03 58819299 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

DENILIQUIN LAC MEDIA RELEASE Issued on 25 February 2018. Barham – Stealing About 6.45pm Monday 19th February at 27 year old Barham man entered a store in Barham and proceeded to remove food items from the shelf. He was then observed to leave the store without paying for the items. Police attended the store and after viewing CCTV footage attended a Barham residence to question the male. The man admitted to police he stole the food items. He was issued with a criminal infringement notice and a notice banning him from entering the store. Toolybuc – Stealing Between 11:00 and 11:30 Thursday 15 February 2018, the 18 year old victim was in a local licensed premises and left her mobile phone on the reception desk. She moved away for a short time, on her return she discovered that her phone had been stolen. Any person with information regarding this matter is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000. Deniliquin – Drink driving while disqualified. About 10:15 pm on Friday the 23 February 2018, a 25 year old Deniliquin man was stopped on Butler Street for a random breath test. The man’s driver’s licence was disqualified until April 2018. The man was subjected to a road side breath test which returned a positive result. He was arrested and conveyed to Deniliquin Police Station for the purpose of a breath analysis. The male was submitted to a breath analysis which returned a reading of 0.072 grams of alcohol in 210 litres of breath. The man was charged with driving whilst disqualified and low range PCA. He will face Deniliquin Local Court in March. Deniliquin - Stealing Between 7.30pm and 8.00pm Saturday 17 February 2018 unknown person/s have stolen a four fishing rods, four fishing reels, 60 various fishing lures and a tackle bag from a boat located on the Edward River near the Deniliquin Fishing Classic HQ on the north oval. The property is valued at over $4000. Anyone with information regarding this stealing is urged to contact Deniliquin Police or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000. Moama – Man and Women arrested and extradited to Victoria. On Monday 19 February 2018, Moama and Deniliquin Police assisted by Victoria Police arrested a 25 year old Melbourne man on the NSW side of the Murray River, Barmah. The man was wanted in Victoria for 8 outstanding arrested warrants, stolen property and 24 other matters including armed robbery. Also arrested at the same time was the man’s female accomplice a 30 year old Melbourne women. She was wanted for 4 outstanding arrests warrants for various property offences. Both persons were conveyed to Deniliquin Police Station and the warrants were formally executed and both bail refused. On Tuesday 20 February the man and women faced and extradition hearing at Deniliquin Local Court. The extradition was granted and both were handed over the Victorian Police Officer’s that were in court. They were extradited to Victoria to face significant changes in that state. Deniliquin – Hinder Police Charges About 12.10pm Saturday 24 February 2018 Deniliquin Police Stopped a vehicle on Butler Street, Deniliquin. At the time police noticed a 23 year old Deniliquin male passenger in the vehicle was in breach of his current bail conditions. He was told he was under arrest and complied with police directions. While police were dealing with the man a 23 year old Mathoura women decided she did not agree with police and tried to stop police arresting the man and tried to get property from his pockets. On the 19th of February 2018 between 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. a gun metal grey, 6 x 10 ft. dual axle trailer, registration W33322 (Victorian registration) was stolen from the Ravensworth Truck Stop, 55 km west of Hay on the Sturt Highway. The trailer has been described as having 3-4 ft high sides, Toyota style stud pattern rims similar to the Sunraysia rim style, a long draw bar and steel boxes running down each side. The trailer has a significant ‘Austshear’ sign with ram’s head sticker on the rear of the trailer. The trailer contained the following equipment which was stolen; • 16 KVA Lister Diesel generator, • Lyco Dominator brand wool press white and blue in colour, • Six sets of Heiniger overhead shearing gear, • A Heiniger grinder, and • Numerous shearing hand sets. DENILIQUIN LAC MEDIA RELEASE 120218 - 180218 Moama – Steal from Motor Vehicle. During the evening of 15 February 2018 number plates were stolen from two vehicles parked at the Moama recreation ground. Police are requesting any person with any information to contact Moama Police on 0354 820099 or Crime stoppers on 1800 333 000. Roll over collision – Blighty. At approximately 2.50pm on Wednesday 14 February 2018 Police and emergency services attended a single vehicle roll over on Cowans Road, Blighty. On arrival two occupants were located and treated by Ambulance, it was alleged that the driver being a 27 old Finley residence was ejected from the vehicle during the collision, as such she received treatment at the scene prior to being transferred to Canberra for further treatment and assessment. The second passenger in the vehicle being a young child received minor injuries only, however was transferred with the driver for precautionary measures only. Investigations into this incident are ongoing. Drive under the influence of Drug. In the past week police have detected 5 drivers driving under the influence of drugs, as such these driver’s licences were suspended for 24 hrs and they are required to attend Moama and Deniliquin Local Courts to answer these matters. DENILIQUIN LAC MEDIA RELEASE 4 February 2018 – 11 February 2018 Please note – There will be a separate Southern 80 release later in the week. Finley – Malicious Damage. Between the 2nd February – 5 February unknown persons have gone to the Finley Public School and damaged a number of roller doors. The incident is being investigated, however if any person has any information in relation to the incident they can contact Finley Police on 03 58831044 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 Moama – Boat collision. On Wednesday 7 February at around 1210pm Police were contacted to attend a 2-boat collision on the Murray River at around ‘Cadell Corner’, with one of the vessels suffering extensive damage. Both pilots were breath tested providing police with a negative result. The investigation is ongoing. Tocumwal – Low Range PCA. At approximately 11pm on 10 February 2018 Police from Tocumwal were patrolling Hennessy Street, Tocumwal when they stopped a Ford Falcon driven by a 21-old male. The male who was a holder of a P1 licence (zero limit) was subjected to a roadside breath test providing police with a positive reading. With this, the male was arrested and conveyed to the Police Station, Tocumwal where he was submitted to a breath analysis. This analysis provided police with a positive reading of 0.075 being within the Low Range PCA. The male is to appear before the Finley Local Court later. Berrigan – Mid Range PCA. At approximately 11.2o pm on 8 February 2018 Police were patrolling Drummond Road, Berrigan when they stopped a Holden Trax driven by a 28-old male. The male was subjected to a roadside breath test providing police with a positive reading. With this, the male was arrested and conveyed to the Police Station, Finley where he was submitted to a breath analysis. This analysis provided police with a positive reading of 0.096 being within the Low Range PCA. The male persons license was immediately suspended and he is to appear before the Finley Local Court later. Deniliquin – Counterfeit monies On 11 February 2018 Police attended a Napier Street, Deniliquin address in relation to an enquiry. Whilst at this premises Police were given permission to search the premises, during this search Police located an amount of Counterfeit monies, all of which were counterfeit $50 bills. Enquires in relation to this matter are ongoing, however we urge all business houses to vigilant in the checking of any monies exchanged, and report all suspicious activity to Deniliquin Police 035881 9299 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000. The bills are easily identifiable as counterfeit as see in the attached photos. They have Asian style writing on them where the hologram would normally appear. INFORMATION JUST IN - There may also be $20 notes in circulation as well within the local area. Hay – Vehicle Search. At around 11.30pm on Saturday 10 February 2018 Police were patrolling in Lachlan Street Hay when they stopped a Toyota Soarer, being driving by a 46-old male. It was quickly ascertained that the vehicle was unregistered, and although a ‘unregistered vehicle permit’ was supplied, by the male police will allege that he did not take the ‘most direct’ route to his destination. Police conducted a search of the vehicle and male and located an amount of white crystal in re-sealable bags, along with drug utensils. Police will allege this crystal is in fact methylamphetamine. The male person was conveyed to the Hay District Hospital to undergo blood and urine tests, however refused to comply with these lawful tests. As a result of this the male person has been given a number of field Court Attendance Notices for the offences of Possess Prohibited Drug, Refuse to submit sample of blood, and Drive under the influence of a drug. DENILIQUIN LAC MEDIA RELEASE 070218 Child Approach – Moama. On Tuesday 6 February 2018, the Command posted seeking public assistance in respect to an alleged child approach in Moama. We can report that the incident has been fully investigated by both Moama Police and Deniliquin Detectives. With the assistance of information provided by the Public the driver of the utility has been identified and spoken to, it is apparent that there is/was no malicious intent on his behalf, as he saw that one of the boy’s bikes had a flat tyre as such he attempted to help. Please remain vigilant and continue to educate your children on the ‘Safe People, Safe Places’ messages including; - Make sure your parents or another adult you know knows where you are at all times. - Always walk straight home or to the place you are walking to. Walk near busier roads and streets, or use paths where there are lots of other people. - Know where safe places are – a shop, service station, police station, library or school. If you are ever frightened, you should go to one of these places and ask them to call the police. - Learn about safe adults you can look for and talk to if you need help – police officers, teachers at school, adults you know and trust. - Don’t talk to people you don’t know and never get into a car with someone you don’t know. If a car stops on the side of the road and you don’t know the person inside, do not stop. - If you are scared and can use a phone, call 000 and tell them you are scared. - If someone tries to grab you, yell out, ‘Go away, I don’t know you’. N S W P O L I C E FORCE DENILIQUIN LAC MEDIA RELEASE Issued on 4th February 2018. Murray Downs – Female extradited & charged About 1.00am on the 1st January, 2018, two males aged 31 and 25 years old were assaulted in an incident that occurred in the Murray Downs area. One of the males sustained a permanent disfiguring injury to his right eye and the other male sustained two large lacerations to his face and head which required stiches. Detectives were assigned to the case and have been investigating the matter. On the 1st February, 2018, NSW Police applied for and were granted a warrant for the arrest of a 42 year old female from Swan Hill. On the 2nd February, 2018, Victorian Police arrested the female in Swan Hill and NSW Police attended, applying for extradition back to NSW. The extradition was granted and the 42 year old female was conveyed back to Deniliquin where she was charged with Cause grievous bodily harm to person with intent, wound person with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, Reckless grievous bodily harm - in company, Reckless wounding - in company and Affray. Her bail was refused by Police and also refused at Local Court. She has been remanded into custody for a further Court date in the future. Deniliquin – Male charged Drive Whilst Disqualified - Unregistered About 9.20am on the 31st January, 2018, Police stopped a white Mitsubishi in Hardinge Street, Deniliquin. Police spoke to the 22 year old male driver who they had already identified as being disqualified. Enquiries revealed that male was disqualified from driving till 6th March, 2019 and that the vehicle he was driving has been unregistered since 22nd March, 2017 making it also void of Compulsory Third Party insurance. The male will receive a Court Attendance Notice for the offences of Drive Whilst Disqualified, Drive Unregistered Vehicle and Drive Uninsured Vehicle and will appear at Deniliquin Local Court at a date to be set.. Tocumwal – Attempted Fraud. On the 2nd February, 2018, a 74 year old male was almost the victim of a $8500 fraud. The male had earlier called Telstra to report an issue with his internet. When a male called phones back claiming to be from Telstra, the 74 year old male gave remote access. The fraudster then attempted to steal $8500 from the male in an attempted rouse to track down other would be computer hackers. The victim became wise to what was going on and ceased any more involvement, saving himself $8500. Police again urge all members of the public to make their own checks to ensure the bona fides of the people they are speaking to, and under no circumstance make monetary withdraws simply upon request. If in doubt, call the Police for further advice. Mathoura – Break & Enter. Between 12pm on Sunday 28th January and 11am on Saturday 3rd February, 2018, unknown offender/s have gained entry into a shed located at a premises in Morris Street Mathoura. The offender/s gained entry via removing tin from the shed walls, and once inside, have removed a variety of tools and equipment such as a mower, snipper, wheel barrow, and other assorted tools and garden tools, estimated to be in the vicinity of $2800 value. If anyone has information about this incident, please contact Mathoura or Moama Police or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000. Deniliquin – Male Arrested for Assault Police About 11.30pm on Friday, 4th February, 2018, a 27 year old male has tried to gain entry to the Exchange Hotel but was refused entry by staff. The male has then acted in an overly aggressive manner and spat at Hotel staff. Police were called and attended, locating the 27 year old male nearby. Police tried to speak with male but he continued to be aggressive and refused to cooperate. He was placed under arrest and escorted to the rear of the Police truck. During this process, the male kicked Police in the face, threatened their families and spat in the face of Police twice. He continued to wrestle and resist arrest and when back in Deniliquin Police Station, continued to spit in the charge room and act in an aggressive manner. He was ultimately charged with eight offences including Fail To Quit Licensed Premises, Intimidate Police, Assault by Police times two, Offensive Language and Resist Arrest. He was refused bail and put before the Court the next morning where he was again bail refused and is now remanded in gaol pending the matter going to Court. His 30 year old female associate continued to interfere with Police attempts to arrest and secure the male, hence she will be charged with Hinder Police. Both male and female are Deniliquin residents. . Deniliquin – Major Crash About 1.35am on Tuesday 30th January, 2018, Police observed a grey Ford Falcon sedan in Wakool Road as it was approaching Deniliquin. Police attempted to stop the vehicle, however, it refused to pull over and a pursuit was initiated. The pursuit traveled on Fowler Street, Sloane Street, Butler Street and eventually turned back onto Wakool Road. Police then terminated the pursuit. Police then attended the vehicle owner’s address in Deniliquin to make some inquiries, when a further message was received at Police radio. Police then made several attempts to call the driver and speak with him without success. At 2.08am, Police located an 18 year old Deniliquin man walking along Wakool Road with injuries consistent with a car crash. An ambulance was contacted, attended and conveyed the male to Deniliquin Hospital for treatment to non-life threatening injuries. Police drove a further kilometre down Wakool Road and near Boltons Road, the grey Ford Falcon was located some 280 metres off the roadway, hard up against the tree with extensive front end damage. Police gathered some of the belongings from the vehicle and returned them to the male in hospital. Deniliquin Media - Moama Child Approached About 3.05pm today, Friday, 2nd February, 2018, a 10 year old boy was walking home from school along Francis Street Moama when he was near the intersection of Echuca Street, a black van stopped and asked the child if he wanted a lift home. The child declined and ran the remainder of the way home and was not further interfered with. The van was described as old and black in colour, dirty with dents and scratches. The male driver was described as 40 to 50 old, dirty and scruffy looking with missing teeth and other teeth which were brown. DENILIQUIN MEDIA - 2nd February 2018 About 4pm on Friday, 2nd February, 2018 an elderly male was manoeuvring his motor vehicle in the back yard of his residence, when for unknown reasons, his vehicle has accelerated harshly in reverse across Henry Street in Deniliquin and through the front window/wall of a residence across the road, continued to travel in reverse through the lounge room and through the back wall into the back yard of this residence. NSW Fire & Rescue, Ambulance and Police responded and found that the two ladies who reside at the house uninjured as both ladies were not seated in the lounge room at the time. The elderly male driver was shaken up and conveyed to Deniliquin Hospital for observation but was otherwise uninjured. VRA Services arrived on scene and are in the process of restabilising the residence. Police will speak with the driver of the motor vehicle after he returns from Hospital.

DENILIQUIN LAC MEDIA RELEASE 210118 - 280118 Deniliquin – HRPCA and exceed speed. At approximately 12.25pm on 25 January 2018 Police were patrolling the Riverina Highway in an unmarked Police vehicle. At this time, a Hyundai sedan driven by a 35 old Deniliquin woman was seen to over taken the unmarked Police vehicle. It is alleged that this Hyundai was travelling well in excess of the posted speed limit. Police followed the vehicle for a distance, where police will allege that the vehicle continued to travel well in excess of the posted speed limit. The vehicle was stopped and the driver spoken to, at which time she was subjected to a road side breath test. This test provided police with a positive reading, as such the driver was arrested and conveyed to the Police Station, Deniliquin where she was subjected to a breath analysis, returning a reading of 0.166 being in the High Range PCA category. The woman’s licence was immediately suspended, and she was charged with both speeding and PCA offences, she will appear before the Deniliquin Local Court later. Berrigan– Stealing. During the evening of 21 January 2018 unknown persons have gone to the Berrigan pool and stolen the donation box. Police have been contacted and are investigating the theft. At around 3.30pm on 26 January 2018 Police stopped a Commodore sedan containing to male persons from the Western Sydney area. As a result of this stop, Police formed a reasonable suspicion that the vehicle may contain unlawful items. As such, Police conducted a search of the vehicle and located 2 ball pythons’, an albino Retic (reticulated) python and 2 shingle back lizards in the bag. These reptiles were seized by Police and lodged with a registered career. Police have conducted several enquires with National Parks and Wildlife and it is apparent that the males have committed a number of offences. As such these males will have legal notices served on them. Deniliquin – Storm incident. At approximately 6.50pm on 25 January 2018 a major storm cell struck Deniliquin with winds reported of up to 80 km/ph. This storm cell has caused a large portion of the roof of the Globe Hotel to detach coming to rest approximately 30 meters away. The detached roof damaged 6 vehicles that were parked on the road way outside of the Globe Hotel. Deniliquin – MRPCA. At approximately 4.20pm on 25 January 2018 Police were preforming stationary RBT on Hardinge Street. At this time, a Holden Captiva driven by a 43 old Deniliquin male was stopped. The driver was subjected to a roadside breath test, which provided police with a positive result. As such the male person was arrested and conveyed to the Police Station, Deniliquin where he was subject to a breath analysis. This analysis provided police with a positive reading of 0.103, being a mid-range PCA.
