DID YOU KNOW?! By completing your Tax Return through a registered agent you get a 6 month extension to lodge. This means if we are lodging your 2017 Tax Return the due date is not until May next year! The due date for those lodging via MyGov is the end of this month.

The Reserve Bank of Australia has announced the cash rate will remain unchanged at a record low 1.5%. The cash rate has remained the same for 13 consecutive months with the last move being in August 2016. Industry experts predict the cash rate will remain unchanged for the rest of 2017.

They believe there is misconception that everyday clothing can be claimed like a white shirt or black pants. Clothing can only be claimed if it is a Uniform, Protective Clothing or distinctive type of clothing like chefs pants. They have also noted that log books often have errors and an ATO audit will disallow motor vehicle travel if the log book is incorrect. The ATO have also stated they are checking income is declared for AirBnB and Uber drivers. Data matching software makes this much easier for the ATO. SCAM WARNING! There have been many reports this week about the ATO calling saying that you have a debt outstanding that must be paid immediately or that you are being investigated for tax avoidance. Please be aware that the ATO will not call you directly. They will always send you a letter first and then contact us as your accountant. If you do receive a call from the ATO and are unsure if it is a scam please hang up and call us just to be safe. Do not give any personal information over the phone.
