How clean is solar power?
Solar panels are seen as a source of clean energy, but have you stopped to consider the carbon emissions generated during their production? This team from Utrecht University in the Netherlands has, and they have concluded that: "depending on the numbers fed into the model, global break-even could have come as early as 1997, or might still not have arrived. But if it has not, then under even the most pessimistic assumptions possible it will do so in 2018. After that, solar energy’s environmental credentials really will be spotless." http://ow.ly/TTrd507H9eC
Fight to save 'ancient' Wheatbelt trees from road upgrade
Should the environment suffer to protect our safety? Main Roads has begun clearing almost 40 hectares of native vegetation lining the York-Merredin Road, claiming that roadside vegetation contributes to more than 37% of road deaths in the Wheatbelt. The area includes critically endangered eucalypt woodlands, old salmon gums, and is an important habitat for both the red-tailed phascogale and the Carnaby's black cockatoo. http://ow.ly/BZAb307Vkqk
