The CGIB Recreation Ground is a community owned and operated Sports Centre where AFL Football, Cricket, Netball and Tennis clubs operate year round. A public meeting was first held on the 23rd July 1950, at which the community decided to establish a recreation ground. The first clubs to be affiliated to the Cherry Gardens Ironbank Recreation Ground were the Cricket, Tennis and Basketball/Netball Clubs. The football club was established in 1985. The   CGIB Recreation Ground Is administered by the Executive Committee as outlined by the original executives of the Recreation Ground namely Mr I Morgan, Mr R Chapman, Mr C Frith, Mr R Dunn, Mr I Stone, Mr D Ricks, Mr R Evans, Mr C Coat, Mr K Lewis, Mr J Frith, Mr V Morgan, Mr S Evans, Mr T Morgan, Mr C Stone, and Mr C Morgan in 1950.
The Recreation Ground has always relied on the support of the local community In order to raise funds for the development of the facility with many hours spent on the actual labouring of clearing, building and ultimately maintenance.  The various clubs have been responsible for the maintenance of the various facilities they use le.  Cricket and Football Clubs for the oval and Tennis and Netball Clubs for the tennis and netball courts.
The Recreation Ground and the various sporting clubs have provided many young sports people with the opportunity to play sport in their local area and to be part of the community at large.
