A really interesting read on the microbiome and the importance of diversity of bacteria in the gut. We know that less diversity is often associated with an increase of disease. Correspondingly they also have much, much lower rates of typical Western diseases such as obesity, cancer and diabetes. We know that environmental factors can negatively affect diversity. Have you used antibiotics in your lifetime? Do you use antibacterial soaps and cleansers? Do you eat enough fibre daily? Are you replacing your microbiome with probiotics and fermented foods? How good is your microbiome diversity?

Another reason to ditch sugar ... now it’s linked to Alzheimer’s
Here we're beginning to see the solid evidence behind excess sugar consumption. Consuming sugar promotes an activity called glycation - where damage occurs in protein structures - which contributes to the ageing process. Research has now shown that high sugar intake can lead to an inflammatory response through the glycation of an insulin regulation protein. Elevated blood sugars are then highly correlated with the development of plaque and tangles in the brain that are consistent with Alzheimers. Another reason to ditch the sweet tooth?
