How would you describe a Doula? This was from the show Brooklyn Nine Nine: 'Sharon: A doula is someone who supports you emotionally and physically, and coaches you through the process. Jake: Oh I see, so sort of like a vaginal Gandalf'.

The modern parenting conversation nobody is having

'It takes a village to raise a child and yet so much of modern parenting takes place in silos. Each of us existing within the confines of our white picket fenced prisons. We limit our support structures to those who are related to us by blood, not wanting to be an imposition on others beyond the time period deemed socially acceptable'. How true these words are: our 'modern' world has given us many wonderful things to improve our lives but has also seen the demise of our support networks.

Beth and I would like to thank you so very much for your love, support & care during the many months of TTC on the IVF road. So many late night calls when I was feeling so unwell, confused and scared and then when we became pregnant, so many questions. You always answered honestly and helped us feel at ease. When our baby decided to arrive you were there holding our space, a constant presence lending us strength. Each time I struggled to go on I just looked at you and saw you smile and I knew everything was okay. Our birth was amazing and we thank you, thank you, thank you. X Annie, Beth & D'Arcy.

Hi my name is Rachael, firstly, Congratulations on the impending arrival of your baby, its such an exciting time!!! I would describe myself as a friendly person who has a caring, mature attitude with a good sense of humour and excellent communication skills. I am a Mum to three beautiful children who are lively and full of spunk! My love of babies, precious pregnant bellies and fascination of the birthing process has lead me to a career in this field. I offer support to both single women and couples. I believe the fathers role is vitally important and I will be there to support both Mum and Dad. As a doula it is my job to know when to stand back and let Dad take on the important role of supporting his Partner but also know when to step in when he needs a break or some reassurance. I understand that not every father can be present at the birth for varying reasons and I think this is the time Mums to be need that extra support and to have someone they can rely on and trust. I can be there to support you both physically and emotionally at this exciting time! I honestly believe that every woman and her partner have the right to choose what they believe is right for them and their baby. My role is to support you in your decisions in regards to your pregnancy and birth and provide you with information so you can make the best informed decisions. My job will to be of constant support through visits and phone calls during your pregnancy, to be with you throughout labour and birth and provide support and debriefing after he birth. I understand that everybody’s needs and situations are different and I will endeavour to treat every person with the individuality that they need. Making the decision to have someone else present at this intimate and exciting time in your life isn't always an easy one to make and its important to make sure you are making the right choice so I am more than happy to meet you before you make your final decision and there wont be any charge for this. If you have any questions or would like to meet for a chat please feel free to contact me at any time. Kind regards Rachael Phone ~ 0429 353 396 Email ~ rhaines99@hotmail.com
