Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs):

Who are the tutors?

The tutors are all UWA undergraduates enrolled in reputable degrees, such as Medicine and Law. They have ATARs of 98+, as well as tutoring experience. Students learn effectively from younger, knowledgeable tutors, as they are able to relate to them more. The tutors are friendly, approachable and are positive role models who inspire students to work hard at school and succeed, as they once did.

Why are the 2 hour lessons split into 6 x 20 minute sessions?

These 6 x 20 minute sessions cover the key Maths and English learning areas, to help students build a strong foundation during their early school years.

The technique is based on research which has found that memory develops most effectively with short bursts of learning repeated at regular intervals. This is due to most students having short attention spans, where they can only maintain optimal focus for about 20 minutes at a time. This is why the students get to move around the 6 learning stations and learn something new and different, to ‘restart the attention clock’.  - Salman Khan, Founder of Khan Academy.

PRACTICE EXAMS Year 11 and 12 Maths Methods and Maths Applications School exams are infamous for being 'too hard' with questions 'never seen before'. They can be worth as much as 40% of a student's final grade and should not be taken lightly! Academis is offering year 11 or 12 students enrolled in either Maths Methods or Maths Applications the opportunity to comprehensively prepare for their upcoming Semester 1 exams. Students will get to sit 3 maths exams under simulated exam conditions, over the course of 3 consecutive weeks leading up to their school exams in May/June. These exams have been carefully drafted by experienced Maths teachers and Academics, to ensure that students are assessed on all aspects of the course. The exams are similar in content and difficulty to what students can expect in their own school exams. Sitting the 3 Academis exams essentially takes out the 'surprise element' of the school exam that each student will ultimately sit. When a student sits the 'real exam' on the fourth round, they can expect improved performance and significantly better results. Compare this to the usual scenario of a student who goes straight from studying at home to sitting the school exam, with little or no practice of maths questions under exam conditions. The last date for enrolments is May 10th, 2016. Exam Dates: Exam 1: May 14 Exam 2: May 21 Exam 3: May 28 If a student cannot attend a particular date/dates, alternative arrangements may be possible. Venue: TBA, but close to CBD. Fee structure: $99 for 1 exam $149 for 2 exams $169 for 3 exams Student benefits: o Gain familiarity with exam style questions o Determine strengths and weaknesses o Grow confidence and reduce exam anxiety o Receive personalised feedback for each exam To find out more, visit www.academis.com.au or email: m.khan@academis.com.au
