“From an early age, I’ve been watching films and it’s kind of how my family bonded as well. So it’s always a nice thing to come back to, escaping the world and I love reading so it made sense to do a double major in film and writing. "I started doing nursing. When I left high school I thought that I wouldn’t be able to get a job if I did something creative, but I think once, you realise what you want to do, just stick with it. I prefer to struggle doing what I love than completely hate my future job just because I decided to compromise.” Meet other #humansofcurtin here: http://bit.ly/humansofcurtin

“I came from a developing country as a person with a disability. Everything is upside down here, everyone is more accepting, you’re seen for who you are, what you’re capable of, and what you bring to the table, and that’s something I really appreciate. "I always went to school with able-bodied people my whole life, and I guess I was exposed to being different and being seen the whole time as something not in your mainstream cup of tea. I spent the longest time being unhappy about things I couldn’t change. But I think the moment you stop comparing your life to others that’s when you start feeling content and that’s the first step to discovering who you are as an individual. And from there you have the drive to do whatever you want to without worrying about what others think, and the moment I stopped doing that I found contentment.” Celebrating Disability Awareness Week (27 Nov - 3 Dec). We're sharing stories like Crystal's to acknowledge the contribution of people with disability within the University and wider community. Read more: http://bit.ly/2gLlHBU #humansofcurtin

"I decided to enrol in international relations and journalism at Curtin because I want to keep being an advocate for young multicultural people, and because I’m quite outspoken! I also volunteer for the Youth Affairs Council of Western Australia where I plan state youth summits for young multicultural people from all around the state. These summits give young individuals the opportunity to build relationships, self-confidence and enhance their leadership skills … I really love being a part of it. Seeing the difference you can make in young peoples’ lives, even if it’s just a confidence boost, can go so far." Discover Tamkin's full story: http://bit.ly/2gbsLLw #humansofcurtin

"I’m from Germany; I’m just here for an exchange semester. I’m studying early childhood here, which is the closest it gets to my course back home. I’ve been to Australia before, and I’ve always had plans to come back to study because I plan on working here at some point in my life. I think the biggest difference about studying in Australia is that you’re constantly tested, whereas in Germany, we have one final exam and one final assignment per unit at the end of the semester." “People are walking so fast that they often don’t see what’s going on around them – they only pass by. With documentaries, you have the opportunity to tell a story about a community, about a city, about a building or about other things that are real. “The audiovisual is a universal language. It’s all the same. I sat in on some screen arts units here at Curtin. It’s the same TV. It’s the same experience. Only the language is different, but it’s the same image and it’s the same emotions that the image brings to the people.” Read more about Chilean student Pablo Cuadra Caro’s visit to Curtin: http://bit.ly/2eTrHI2 Meet other ‪#‎humansofcurtin‬ here: http://bit.ly/2eTtmgq
