Discovery Centre Bendigo
Description
Discovery offers a unique and fun way to spend your time...and you're sure to learn some really interesting things along the way! With over 100 interactive exhibits to explore, you won't know what to try first at Discovery. Be sure to look out for the whacky mirrors that make you look really strange, or the echoing chamber that repeats your words a thousand times over, and don't forget to play a tune on the thong-a-phone!
Some popular Discovery favorites also include:
Bendigo Planetarium: Sit back and relax, on a bean bag, and become immersed in the world above as we take you on a guided journey through the cosmos, venturing to places you've never been before. Planetarium shows can be seen daily at 1:30pm on weekdays and 11:30am and 1:30pm on weekends and public holidays.
Vertical Slide: Have you ever experienced zero gravity? Discovery is famous for the southern hemisphere's tallest Vertical Slide. With a sheer drop of seven metres you will fall at a speed of 30-40km per hour! All sliders must be at least five years of age. You can plummet down the Vertical Slide at 11am, 1pm and 3pm daily.
Kaleidoscope: Think you're too young for science? Think again. For the young scientist under eight, learn the basic principles of maths and science through the colourful and fun exhibits in Kaleidoscope.
Curious Kids: Are you aged 3-5 and looking for a science adventure sprinkled with fun? Then come along to Curious Kids. A Curious Kids session consists of 'story time' followed by an activity in The Lab. Curious Kids is held on the first and third Monday of each month during school terms at 11:00am.
Birthdays at Discovery: Looking for a birthday party with a difference? Discovery is sure to make your birthday one to remember. We provide a private room, the invitations, party food, party bags, and of course, the fun! All you need to do is invite the guests! For more information just contact our friendly Bookings Office on (03) 5443 8255.
The Discovery Shop: If you are looking for an unusual gift, then the Discovery Shop is the place to go. The Discovery Shop specialises in stocking fascinating educational items that are sure to keep kids busy for hours. It also stocks interesting low cost items that would be a great addition to any child's party pack. Why not pop in and see what's available?

Don't miss out! Our STEAM networking night is next Tuesday evening. It's going to be great fun, with access to our new exhibition spaces, some fun engineering workshops and discussions around Inquiry-based learning. This event will count towards teacher professional development hours.
We had a wonderful Curious Kids session today - our little scientists got to explore our new under 6s Kaleidoscope space, had a science story time with experiments and got to sing twinkle twinkle little star in the Planetarium! We still have spaces for tomorrow's session but booking is essential: https://www.eventbrite.com.au/e/curious-kids-kaleidoscope-launch-tickets-41477904529
The Bendigo Advertiser joined us for the launch of our beautiful new under 6s space, Kaleidoscope last night! Dana Twycross, our Early Learning Program Developer designed this new space. She would like to stress that both block play and reading are equally important to early development, and you'll find opportunities to do both in this wonderful new early learning environment.
We'd post a picture of Kaleidoscope now it's open but it's too full of under 6's to respect their privacy. So here's a shot of Lucus again. We're open til four today and ten to four tomorrow.
Bendigo Weekly came to visit us this week and got a sneak peak of our new exhibits and renovated Kaleidoscope space.
Aside from reopening today, we're also very excited to announce our new website! You can check it out now: www.discovery.asn.au
There's a hush over the centre this morning because we reopen at 10am! The Discovery staff have been working super hard over February to transform the centre, and we've had help from volunteers, the community, John T Reid Trusts, and Scienceworks. Kaleidoscope is still probably one day away from being able to open, awaiting a delivery to ensure safety compliance. Thank you to everyone who has helped us, and we hope you come enjoy the refreshed Discovery Centre!
Lucus and his crew are putting in the finishing touches to our new-look Kaleidoscope under-6 space. Just one issue - Kaleidoscope won't be compliant tomorrow, so won't be available for an explore until Friday. We apologise for any inconvenience, and know children will love it. With our new year starting, we're keeping family, adult and child prices the same, but are introducing a low cost $5 ticket for children aged 3 & 4 years old. They'll be our visitors who will get the most from Kaleidoscope.
