Holes-in-One This week we have had two golfers score aces. Saturday 15th - Gary Gillett on the 2nd hole Wednesday 19th - Ken Fisher on the 15th nole Congratulations, well done!
Course Works General We are on track for a full recovery to fairway grass coverage. Fairway cutting height has been raised to 19 mm to help with recovery. Fairways are in a repetitive cutting cycle, where access permits, this is indicative of the amount of growth (recovery). The 5th fairway, tee end 12th, tee end 13th and approach on 1st are the fairway areas holding the course back at present. Greens are now being cut at 3.2 mm and will be more then likely be rolled before weekend play. The wet humid weather will make for a quick recovery from renovation. Rough mowers are working non stop. Again access to some areas is limited. Teeing decks are at a yearly peak with excellent grass coverage. Cutting height for tees is 15mm. This week members will observe blue dye around green edges. This is the herbicide to control kikuyu encroachment. During the wet periods bunkers are GUR. It is expected we will have them in play for the week end. Construction / Projects Sand Link Remedial Work (SLRW) on the 10th fairway is in the full cutting program and is being surely tested with recent rains. All areas with Sand Link Remedial Work are performing to expectations. The 12th and 18th fairways are much improved. We have taken photographs that fully explain the program. We are still managing the complexities of last summer, when a new demon arrives in persistent rain. Members will understand how quickly the focus can change from irrigation to drainage. Summer construction work around the 13th green, and 8th green and rock runs between 15th and 14th holes are in full use on the back of adverse weather. This week with limited access to the course we were able to alleviate the banked surround that holds water on the 7th green. Water will release more efficiently from this area. Peter Watts
Congratulations Ben Johnson!!! Hole in one on the 2nd hole last Sunday.
Our club Pro has a Titleist fitting day in April. Contact Peter or his staff to take advantage of this great offer.
Course Works General The dams are now full with all rock runs, creeks and drainage systems working to capacity. We are on track for a full recovery. Fairway cutting height has been raised to 19 mm to help with recovery. Fairways are in a repetitive cutting cycle, where access permits, this is indicative of the amount of growth (recovery). Greens have been renovated. The constant rain has prevented a full renovation on all greens. The wet humid weather will make for a quick recovery from renovation. A balanced slow release fertilizer will be applied on Friday and left to settle over the week end. Our modified renovation will suffice to our regular spring renovation in August. Rough mowers are working non stop. Again access to some areas is limited. Fairways such as 5th, tee end 13th, and tee end 12th have limited access due to the wet. There is machine damage to the course, this damage will be righted once the weather abates. The season still has adequate growth. Bunkers will be out of play until we have respite from the rain. Golf Carts and motorised equipment are allowable on the course. Where possible, use paths to prevent damage to areas on the course that are still sodden.
