Today we welcomed 114 new Prepatory Students to Aspley State School. There was a lot of excitement and just a few tears as they settled into their new classrooms and routines. It was great to see so many smiling faces. In all it was a very positive start to the new school year!

Wishing all our Aspley State School families a very Merry Christmas and a safe, happy and prosperous New Year.
A quick reminder that there will be no whole school assembly on Monday morning. Instead we are conducting a Special Assembly on Tuesday 6 December at 2pm to farewell our graduating Year 6 students. There will also be a special presentation to celebrate the recipients of the prestigious Aspley Medallion for 2016. We hope to see you there.

Christmas-themed free dress is encouraged, but please ensure the clothing is sun-safe and that students wear enclosed shoes. A wonderful day had by all at the Aspley State School 2016 Swimming Carnival. Congratulations to Oxley house for taking out the trophy, but even more impressive was the obvious gestures of good sportsmanship displayed throughout the day. Well done to everyone for a fantastic carnival. These photos are just a snippet from throughout the day. More will be uploaded to the school website late in the week.

Tomorrow, Tuesday 29 November is the annual Swimming Carnival, and we are looking forward to seeing our students in their red, blue and yellow shirts cheering on their house around the school pool. The carnival is for all students in years 3 to 6 and will begin at 8:45am. Students must still go to their classrooms at 8:30am so teachers can mark the roll. Students must wear swimming caps and sunscreen and are encouraged to wear their swimming gear under their house shirts and school shorts so they are ready to race! Remember to pack appropriate clothing if children are changing out of their swimmers after they race. Lunch breaks will be at normal times and a sausage sizzle will be available for students to help raise money for Year 6 Canberra trip in 2017. Students in Years Prep to 2 can still purchase a sausage tomorrow but must bring their money in an envelope with the number of sausages they would like written on it. Years 3 to 6 can just bring their money and order as much as they like. Iceblocks and cold drinks will also be available. Help with the sausage sizzle would be greatly appreciated. GO KENNEDY, OXLEY and MITCHELL!!!

Congratulations to everyone involved in organising and implementing the Sparrows Soccer Program. This statewide recognition is well deserved and we are very proud of what you are doing for the young people of Aspley State School. Well done!
Can you spare a few moments to take my survey?
BRITANNICA SCHOOL SURVEY In a recent newsletter, families were invited to trial the "Britannica School" Online encyclopaedia. This trial was offered with a view to the library, purchasing the licence for use throughout the school from 2017. If you have taken the opportunity we would appreciate your feedback. There are only 10 questions in the survey and this should take no longer than 5 mins of your time. Follow the link below to the survey. Thank you. Hope Francis (Teacher-Librarian)
