Description
The Camellia Society, Adelaide Hills Inc. is based at Stangate House and Garden in Aldgate.
New members are always welcome! The Camellia Society, Adelaide Hills Inc. is based at Stangate House and Garden in Aldgate. Stangate is a national trust property, and the garden is cared for by the Camellia Society. The garden at Stangate is recognised as an ‘International Camellia Garden of Excellence’, as awarded by the International Camellia Society.
Members meet at 7.30pm every third Friday of the month at Stangate House (which has a lovely wood fire in winter!). Guest speakers are usually a feature of the meetings, and a camellia is usually raffled to raise funds.
Every year the Camellia Society holds open days every Sunday in September to raise revenue to continue to care for the garden. More information about this will be provided on the page at a later date.
New members are always welcome, as are volunteers in the garden on Tuesdays. If you have any questions about the society or membership, please contact our President Michelle Size on 8389 6853 or send us a message here on facebook.

Only a few short months before the Camellia sasanquas start to bloom (this is Fukuzutsumi). Camellias like cool roots, so mulch around your plants and check watering is getting below the mulch. Water in the cool parts of the day (especially as the Adelaide Hills is heading for a hot Christmas Day - 39C). From all of us at the Camellia Society Adelaide Hills, Merry Christmas (or your equivalent) and a Happy New Year.

Camellias are putting on lots of new growth. Now is the time to fertilize, remembering camellias are acid-soil plants. To prevent damaging tender roots, water first, fertilize, then water again.
