Protection of the natural environment Projekt Xpu-Ha

The Xpu-Ha project rises from the need to protect sea turtle nests, that have never suffered so much plundering as in this last years; even though they are protected by law and are a threatened species.

Xpu-Ha Bay is located between Playa del Carmen and Tulum. It has almost 2 km of beachfront. It has 140 hectares of sea zone up to the reef, a 100 meters deep mangrove and 500 meters of jungle.

No association or public entity was authorized for its protection, that is why nests were plundered by man; while people and dogs harassed turtles at the moment of laying their eggs. During all this time there were no records of nests and births.

Due to the fact that the number of visitors to Xpu-Ha has continually grown, it is harder for a correct habitat to be maintained spontaneously for turtles to lay their eggs.  

To solve this problem; a group of four people worried about this problem got together to prevent, in the name of Animo, this from happening.
