Tod Head Lighthouse
Description
This is the official Todhead Lighthouse page authorised by the current Lighthouse owners. It gives accurate information about the lighthouse. Todhead Lighthouse passed into private ownership from the Northern Lighthouse Board (NLB)in 2012. This page is run by me, Rohan. The other 4 owners are my sister Mary and her husband, Nigel and my brother, Hugh and his wife, Pamela. I am the main poster on this page but the other admin is my daughter, Claire. Our aim is to keep people informed about what we are doing with this historic building plus information about the surrounding wildlife and weather. We also try and give information about local events and attractions of interest. In addition we add in other information about organisations of interest to the owners. Please note that the building is not open to the public.

Having been hanging around in the water below the cliffs for a while, our summer visitors are beginning to take up their places on their nesting sites. Guillemots, razorbills and kittiwakes all represented
My neighbour, Harry, normally keeps Braidon Bay rubbish free and I try and keep the cliffs below the lighthouse clear. The Beast's two recent visits have left a whole load of assorted detritus on the beach and it will take a few days to get it all up. Sadly there were a lot of sealife casualties too with cuttle fish appearing in the highest numbers. More unusually I also saw these 2 specimens. I think common squid and sunstar respectively ) the latter about 4 inches across. I have never seen one of these starfish before.
After a week of wind, snow and then rain., the road is now back to normal.
I'm sure no-one is planning a visit but the acess road is currently adversely affected by drifting snow.
Spectaculae location
The birds are starting to return for the season with small rafts of razorbills appearing on the water below the cliffs
