CP40 First Impressions I'd like to begin by saying we don't sell these, you can get them online through google, the preorders open up in march for some places so between now and then, we will be periodically updating you on the performance of the pump as well as how it compares to other pumps from jebao and most importantly, the original gyre. This isn't a "buy this because we can get it" sort of thing, it's just our opinion about the pump, like the rest of our opinions we highly encourage you to disregard or ignore them as you see fit. Having said that, we have had the opportunity to run the pump for ~24 hours at this point. It has not caught fire, it's not broken, it doesn't get jammed or slide down the side of the tank. Overall, it seems to be a good little unit to continue testing. So, right off the bat, the unit was very heavy. It didn't feel plastic or toy-like. Even the controller itself seemed to be thicker and sturdier than previous models and generations from jebao. The magnets are very strong...VERY STRONG. They came with warning labels which we laughed at until we both got pinched trying to take them apart. Our acrylic tank we have it sitting on is the standard thickness, and yet we can barely move the unit up and down without lifting off one of the magnets. Unlike the original gyre, the CP40 does not come with spare blades, move over, the blades both face the same direction, which seems like it may detract from the "gyre" mode that it can be set to, as it cannot pull water to itself in a scooping wave action like the gyre. However, the amount of sediment the pump pulled up from the bottom of the tank was unreal. we had just finished polishing the water with microbubbles the previous night and within seconds the water was foul from sucking up and pushing out a TON of sediment from the bottom of the tank. We think this may have something to do with the design of the grating on the deflector shield of the pump, they are curved/slanted instead of straight like the gyre. We enjoyed that each of the deflector shields are adjustable to what appeared to be 360 degrees. This lead to the test tank temporarily becoming a water fountain. Overall, we were able to get a very nice passing wake over the full 6 foot span without maxing out the speed, the angle of the deflectors or the wave interval. We noticed a very compact crash site for flow on corals. It was very gentle, but firm enough to cause an oscillating pulse to occur around all of the polyps of the corals. We did notice that there is more oscillation farther away from the pump and more crashing and waving close to the pump, however our tank is incredibly shallow and may not paint a full picture of proper effect. The variety of modes available in the pump is very robust. We will be getting our wifi link in march and testing it a bit further, but the standard controller is by in far a very comforting improvement beyond the wp and rw series. The labels are great, the buttons make sense and some new features have been added, such as a "warning" light and what appears to be a programming button. Once we get through the broken english on the instructions, we will share our findings with you. Overall, it's a great toy. We haven't found any dead spots after dialing it in, nor was it overly aggressive for fish; rather it produced a sort of flow that was very uniform in oscillation and particle suspension. It was gentle, but firm. We haven't seen any negatives so far, but with a little more digging I'm sure we can dig up something. But for now, It's at least as good as any other pump they have made. Some parts of it immediately stand out as "better", such as the magnets, and the controller, but for the most part, it's very familiar territory for those who have had other jebao products.
