Welcome to St. James' Church- Texarkana, a parish of the Episcopal Diocese of Dallas.  The mission of our church is to restore all people to God, and to each other, through sacramental worship and Christ-like living. St. James' Church is a parish church of the Episcopal Diocese of Dallas. The first parish meeting was held April 2, 1877.  Citizens of all faiths contributed funds for the first church building, erected on property donated by the Texas and Pacific Railroad.  A second edifice, built in 1893-94, was altered and enlarged in 1910 and 1926.  St. James has established or supported at least seven other churches in this area.  This parish pioneered in aid to the elderly and other community services. The parish started Hospice of Texarkana and Meals on Wheels as well as Randy Sams Outreach Shelter for the homeless, now all separate self governing community service Christian ministries.

LABOR DAY "So it is with every artisan and master artisan who labors by night as well as by day ... All these rely on their hands, and all are skillful in their own work."[Ecclesiasticus 38] Collect for Labor Day. Almighty God, you have so linked our lives one with another that all we do affects, for good or ill, all other lives: So guide us in the work we do, that we may do it not for self alone, but for the common good; and, as we seek a proper return for our own labor, make us mindful of the rightful aspirations of other workers, and arouse our concern for those who are out of work; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen. Collect of St Joseph the Worker. God our Father, Creator and Ruler of the universe, in every age you call us to develop and use our gifts for the good of others. With St. Joseph as our example and guide, help us to do the work you have asked and come to the rewards you have promised. We ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.
