Well done to all that played in the first of the Winter League competitions. Looks like a few of you will have your handicaps cut :-)

An early start for Snowy this morning preparing the course for the first round of the Sunday Winter League ....... Snowy hopes everybody enjoys themselves and plays well.

It’s the start of our famous Winter League this weekend.... who’s excited?!

"Snowy" Pontardawe Golf Club's mascot is back after a stint working on some top courses in Spain. Some of you may remember Snowy, who was brought on board to assist our head green keeper Jamie Probert and his team over the winter period a few years ago and has years of experience working in severe weather conditions. He has overseen winter golf on arctic courses such as Akureyri Golf Club' in Iceland. The most northerly 18 hole golf course in the world, which is situated 65⁰ 49' north of the Equator". As you can imagine Snowy brings a wealth of knowledge on winter golf course management and how to beat the elements on the golf course. He tells us the winter golfing conditions can be quite severe in the arctic, but from a very young age he was taught to put on plenty of fur clothes to stay nice and warm. Snowy will be staying at our head green keeper's home and I'm sure he will be well looked after by Jamie and his family, providing him with all the comforts of home and special dietary needs, for him to put a good shift in at the golf course. You can see from the photo, Snowy looks to be settling in quite nicely with the team and will be keeping an eye on things for the members and says members must help the green staff during the winter by taking notice of all signage and checking winter rules on the day to make sure we have a great course come the summer. Snowy will be keeping us up to date with regular posts and photographs during the winter months about his work and life experiences at Pontardawe Golf Club. We're sure his knowledge and assistance on the course throughout the winter will be greatly appreciated. All that's left is to ask, is that the members to welcome Snowy back and say Hi to Snowy on Facebook.

Winter League starts Saturday 4th & Sunday 5th November Rules Preferred lies through the green will be played for the duration of the winter league. Mats must be used everywhere on all fairways or move ball to either side of the fairway and prefer the lie. Maximum Handicaps Men 24 .... Ladies 34 Minimum of 15 entries for Points to be rewarded. Minimum of 20 entries for the competition pay out. Saturday Winter League Top 15 Finalists will be drawn on the 10th March 2018 to play the Saturday final on 17th March 2018. Sunday Winter League Top 15 Finalists will be drawn on the 11th March 2018 to play the Sunday final on 18th March 2018. Prizes Weekly Winner - £20 Club Voucher The Winner of the final will receive a £200 Club Voucher The following 14 other finalist, in order will receive a Club Voucher, the value of which will be dependent on competition entry numbers during the Winter League Period.
