Anne Cheseaux gave a speech at the Real Estate Conference Day, “Academy for best execution” on May 18. The discussion was about opportunities and risks of hotel investments and about matching investor profile and the asset type. Swiss institutional investors are usually very reluctant to consider hospitality in portfolio. In our opinion, well positioned business or MICE hotels with sustainable concepts and solid operators represent interesting alternatives for investors seeking returns above those of residential investments. Hotels in leisure destinations are usually assessed as more risky because of the higher volatility and seasonality but can also be considered into a portfolio strategy.

Last Thursday on 18th May 2017, Managing Partner Alain Cheseaux and Junior Consultant Benjamin Nikzad attended the annual Tourism Forum Zürichsee which was held at the Kunst(Zeug)Haus in Rapperswil-Jona. The discussed topics focused on how culture and art can be opportunities for the tourism industry. Culture and art have always been destination magnets for visitors but businesses like hotels somehow lost sight of how to use these magnets for one’s own benefit. Today hotels try to cater to customers who expect everything, everywhere, anytime. Diversification is important but keeping identity while doing so is challenging. Digging deeper into history of the surrounding area can reveal opportunities, which strengthen the business identity and authenticity. In a world where the word ‘instant’ dominates, one would be surprised how much customers, now more than ever, seek simplicity and ‘back to the roots’ concepts.

Last Thursday Managing Partner Alain Cheseaux and Junior Consultant Benjamin Nikzad attended the SME Business Forum Obersee which was held at the HSR Hochschule für Technik Rapperswil. The subject of the forum was "Tradition, Innovation and Trends". Three attributes that have strong value in the hospitality and healthcare industry and seem to conflict each other at times. Guest speakers from companies like Roche and Swisscom but also from smaller start-ups in the B2C and B2B sector, shared their experiences and ideas in how to bring these attributes together. The conclusion was that no matter the size of the company, what all of them have in common is that trends move quickly and every business needs to adapt by being innovative wherever they can, but always staying loyal to its core values of the business; its tradition. www.kmuforum-obersee.ch
