As a nail tech of 15 years I feel I get asked this question on a daily basis! If you are getting gel artificial nails done and it looks like a powder and a purple or clear liquid that is ACRYLIC!! Gel looks like gel! Gel always needs to be cured under a lamp! Just like gel polish AKA shellac also needs a lamp! People are being deceived of this service cause it cost more for gel when they are really getting acrylic! I have no problem with acrylic as long as it does not contains MMA which is a dental acrylic ! I myself have acrylic nails on because as an esthetician its the only thing that holds up to me doing clients nails! If your paying for gel make sure its gel!! I want clients to be educated on this so they know whats on there hands!!
