St. John's College is a co-educational independent school established in 1979, in the suburb of North Carlton, then in 1984 moved to its present Preston location. The College was founded to provide education of Greek culture and religion to the first, second and third generations of Greeks who lived in Melbourne. The college is under the auspices of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of Australia, and currently consists of 213 students from years P to 12.C.O.R.E. (Christian Orthodox Religious Education), the Greek language, and various teachings of Greek culture, are an integrated part of the school curriculum in years P-10. The Primary School offers students of Years P - 6 a comprehensive curriculum, with classes mainly structured in single year levels with small class sizes.The Secondary School encourages students in years 7-8 to try all subjects offered, with a strong emphasis on Greek Orthodox culture, including dance, religion and the Greek language. A choice of academic studies is offered in Years 9-12.The emblemThe motto, written in Ancient Greek : "ΑΙΕΝ ΑΡΙΣΤΕΥΕΙΝ" means "Forever Excelling". The emblem of the school includes the official emblem of the Eastern Orthodox Church, The Two Headed Eagle.
