Hasselblad X1D first impressions. OK the viewfinder is still a bit clunky relative to the quality of the rest of the camera and the ergonomics are not as intuitive as I may have hoped...BUT.....it gives far away the sharpest images I have had from a camera in hand held use. The shot below with the tight crop in the area shown was at 1/40th sec in this evenings low light. I would need 1/200th to get the same lack of movement blur from my own medium format SLR. No doubt this is due not just to the mirrorless (ie vibrationless) design but also to the low moving mass of the leaf shutters. Normally i cannot match the sharpness of a good 35mm hi res camera with medium format unless I use a tripod or studio flash. This is one medium format that will be perfect for candids too.

A lucky customs just collected his new Leica 28mm f5.6 Summaron lens. A blend of vintage classic with modern optical design. Really cool looks and happily with the original A36 lens cap so this should be available as a spare part again after an absense of 30+ years.

We have the DEMO X1D outfit in store for the next 4 days. You better hotfoot it into the store if you want to get a feel for the size and ergonomics of the system. Youy can see by the pic where I am holding the camera it is smaller than a mamiya 7 for example.
