Alexander Duckham was a chemist who founded his oil company in 1899 in the UK. As the internal combustion engine evolved over the years he developed his oils to keep pace. By the time the company was acquired by BP in 1969 it had grown to be the second biggest UK oil company. The name Duckhams oil then disappeared from the motoring scene. I spent may happy hours as a teenager in the 1960s in the Duckhams lubrication bay of my Fathers garage oil changing cars and refilling with the distinctive Green Duckhams oil. To my surprise Duckhams Classic oil is back and available again. I am sure there will be many Classic car owners who will be pleased to hear this news.

We are now able to offer Stormforce waterproof covers for the ever popular Citroen H Van. The covers are hand made in the UK in 3-4 weeks and are available to suit SWB or LWB models. These vans are now popular for use as catering vans and to promote businesses. The "H" van with its corrugated bodywork was inspired by Junkers aircraft and the suicide doors are a very visual and distinctive feature. The design changed little between 1948-1981. While most were built by Citroen in France with a small number being made in Slough in the UK with right hand drive. The letter H was used followed by another letter to identify the type of van.. W, X ,Y, Z for example. The Police vans were called Panier a Salade or Salad Baskets vans!

Woody has passed the MOT test. it is the second year on the trot with a straight pass and no advisories. All the effort on the restoration has paid off. This is the last time we legally have to put the car in for a test as from May 2018 the car is MOT exempt. All cars over forty years old without any modifications will no longer be required to be tested. This of course opens up a debate as to the rights and wrongs of this legislation.

Swarfega was invented in 1947 by Audley Bowdler Williamson from Derbyshire. He was an industrial chemist and he produced this dark green gelatinous substance that could be used to clean grease from the skin. You put a small amount on your oily hands and then work into the skin before either washing off with water or wiping off. It is more effective than soap at removing grease. Before Swarfega mechanics used to clean their hands with either sand, paraffin or petrol. These methods though caused the skin to crack and some people developed dermatitis. The word Swarfega related to a local engineering term "Swarf" meaning oil and then ega was added to it meaning "Ega" to clean. Swarfega has changed little over the last seventy years and is still a well used, tried and trusted product in the motor and engineering trades.

Woody is having the last bit of the chassis upgraded. We have now replaced the entire chassis sections over the last couple of years. We have removed the engine and gearbox and Steve at Mr B's Classic Cars has done a great job as usual welding new chassis rails, cross member, both tie plates and near side inner and outer wings. While the engine is out the clutch is being replaced although it is just over half worn. It just made sense. New brake pipes will be fitted along with a replacement master cylinder The engine bay will be painted while there is no engine in it and the ancillary parts will be shot blasted if required before refitting. The car is fifty four years old and we think she has done in excess of 500,000 miles (We do not have an exact mileage but give or take 10,000 miles) so I cannot grumble at having to give her some TLC. The next stage will be an interior refurbishment and then finally a coat of paint will hopefully see the restoration complete.

Over the last few months we have been expanding our range of products. We can now offer not only Logos on certain car covers but also wording. A lot of people have names for their cars so why not have it written on your car cover? The wording has a choice of colour, font and size so you can have exactly what you want. We prepare a proof for your approval before we go ahead and manufacture the item. The manufacture process will take about a week normally or longer if we are busy. The photographs are of a Riveria indoor super soft stretch cover (which is available in Red, Black, Green or Navy Blue) with added MG logo and wording. Contact us pjcovers@yahoo.co.uk with your requirements and we will give you a quote.

We have recently produced a Bespoke Holcombe fleecy lined indoor car cover for a client in Moscow Russia. The pictures show the car cover on his Jaguar XJS. The leaping Cat Jaguar logo has been added as well as white piping which really sets the cover off. This car cover was handmade in three working weeks. We ship anywhere in the world although sometimes we have to check the map to see where the country is, such as New Caledonia. If you would like a Holcombe cover for your car we have a choice of twenty colours and can add logos if you wish. www.pjcarcovers.com or call 01785 541463 for a quote
