Ten years ago, we travelled to Italy in order that Pauline could make an attempt at the World Altitude Record in the AX-3 category of Hot Air Balloons. The existing AX-3 record was 2,978m held since September 1965. Pauline not only broke this record, but also the next larger category (AX-4) which was 3,860m from March 1980. Pauline achieved 4,272m (14,006 feet). In January to March 2019, we plan to travel to the US (North/South Dakota) in order to find cold conditions to attempt another nine World Records.
For a bit of fun, we are going to donate a random spot prize to a person who orders a balloon flight voucher for Christmas today!! We have still been getting some orders in today! There is no such thing as as a present being 'too late'
Until this year, Dublin airspace has normally been closed on Christmas Day. Therefore, if the weather/wind direction is suitable, we aim to take advantage and have a fun flight in what is normally closed airspace. On Christmas Day 2008, we took off from the Bective Rugby Club, Donnybrook and flew directly over Dublin, Phoenix Park, Blanchardstown, before landing close to Trim 2.5 hours later.
