The Acupuncture Council of Ireland (ACI) is responsible for the Regulation and Maintenance of an Independent Register of Acupuncturists. The Acupuncture Council of Ireland (ACI) was formed in January 2006, has 500 members nationwide and can provide members of the public with contact details of a fully qualified practitioner of Traditional Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture.

The ACI is responsible for the regulation and maintenance of a Register of Acupuncturists. Only fully qualified and insured practitioners can become members of ACI. All members are bound by a Code of Ethics and Code of Practice, which is strictly enforced by the Executive Committee of the ACI, thus offering a guarantee of confidence to any patient seeking treatment.

It is a condition of membership that each practicing member carries Professional Indemnity and Public Liability Insurance Cover.

An update of the landmark 2012 study by the international Acupuncture Trialists' Collaboration reinforces the evidence that acupuncture is effective for the treatment of chronic musculoskeletal pain and that its benefits cannot be explained solely in terms of placebo effects. The new individual patient data meta-analysis analysed data from an additional 13 trials, giving a total data set of 20,827 patients from 39 trials. Acupuncture plus herbal medicine increase the clinical effective rate of drug therapy for the treatment of polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). In research conducted at the Hubei Maternal and Child Care Service Center, drug therapy using cyproterone acetate/ethinylestradiol and letrozole produced an 72.5% total effective rate.
