A medium format shot of talented dancer Wu Cheng Fang 吳承芳. One thing I fear is getting artistically stale or choose to sit in a box that is covered in labels such as 'runner photographer', 'sports photographer' 'adventure photographer' etc. Today was a day where taking chances & free flowing creativity abounded and brought me back to that place of risk, art & chemistry. Working with talented dancer Wu Cheng Fang, we just blended dance & imagery on the back streets of Hong Kong. Here is one of those captures. More to come... Shot on a Mamiya 645 with Kodak Porta 400 www.lloydbelchervisuals.com

No Take Two - Ultra Gobi A raw & unpolished insight into how I captured images of the 400km Ultra Gobi 2017 race with 'quick & light' photography. Best viewed in HD & also available on youtube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VBsq_LvWVeg&feature=youtu.be All images in video shot on a Sony A7r2 with Zeiss Batis 85/1.8 & 25/2. www.lloydbelchervisuals.com

Analogue medium format portraits from a series of images with runners that I worked with this year. I have finally got around to developing these prints after weeks in the mountains of Europe and then the Gobi desert. I had no idea how these had turned out until yesterday as you can't check your shot on an analogue camera once you've taken it but my gut instinct was that I would be happy with them. It's never easy for runners to stand still & stare straight into a camera. They would rather be running around the mountains for me to take shots of them. So getting the right mood so they let their guard down is key and so I'm pretty chuffed with the results. These portraits was taken in the days before UTMB 2017 on a Mamiya 645 with Kodak Portra 160 & 400 film. 運動員 Athletes: Tim Tollefson [Hoka] David Laney [Nike] Dylan Bowman [The North Face] Fernanda Maciel [The North Face] Scotty Hawker [Hoka] Jeff Browning [Patagonia] Pau Capell [The North Face] I started shooting images as a kid on film cameras. It was fun & made you consider each shot before you pressed the button. There was no LCD screen to check the image with and you would have to wait for the film to be developed. The suspense felt unbearable at times as you wondered how the images had turned out. Fast forward to today where I make a living out of shooting images & the more involved I have become with photography as a business, the more I have become aware of the need to be wary of immediacy in this digital age and protect the creativity, wonder & adventure that are part of this art. Shooting film photography helps me maintain this wonder. ‘Analogue Runners’ is a series of images I have taken of runners on analogue film cameras that you also can view here: http://lloydbelchervisuals.com/analogue-runners/ You can read a detailed article on why I shoot analogue & the benefits it brings to shooting digital here: http://lloydbelchervisuals.com/2014/11/06/why-shoot-analogue/ © Lloyd Belcher Visuals 2017. A glimpse into how I took the shot of @mikewardian crossing the Gobi during Day 3 of the 400km @ultragobi - I took this on a Sony A7r2 with a Zeiss Batis 25/2. In fact, 95% of my shots over this entire assignment were on the A7r2 & I left the DSLRs in the bag. Had to move fast & light over many miles. . BTS shot by buddy @hkaarsholm - check out his work.
