Lisses is a commune in the Essonne department in Île-de-France in northern France.One of the main landmarks of the town is the Dame du Lac, a man-made architectural climbing structure in the Parc du Lac (Park of the Lake), which is commonly used to practice parkour on, but is currently closed to the public, due to individuals injured while climbing the landmark.Origin of the city nameThe name origin of this commune is not well known. One hypothesis is that Lisses is coming from the Latin Licia villa, as the initial village developed around the Lisses estate. Another hypothesis is that Lisses has German origins: Listja, meaning barrier.
