The Terre Haute Children’s Museum will be open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 15, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, and we will have special activities with Indiana State University students, the Indiana State Sycamores Men's Basketball Team, and Bricks 4 Kidz- Terre Haute, Indiana! From 10 a.m. to noon, Museum visitors will get a chance to "Dream and Create with ISU," as students from Indiana State University and the ISU Men's Basketball Team will be volunteering at the Museum as part of the University's "Day of Service" honoring Martin Luther King, Jr. Museum guests will get to work with the ISU students to dream up structures, creatures and inventions that they can then build and create using a wide variety of materials, including K'nex, Zoobs, Brio Trains and more. And then, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., the Museum will welcome Bricks 4 Kidz, which will lead "Building Peace by Piece." The Bricks 4 Kidz staff will lead Museum guests in LEGO activities that will incorporate Martin Luther King, Jr. Day themes of diversity and empowerment. While people are visiting the Museum, they can also check out the new Bricks 4 Kidz LEGO exhibit space on the third floor of the Museum. Bricks 4 Kidz recently partnered with the Museum to create the space, and they will soon be offering some LEGO building programs at the Museum as well. Those who are looking for a way to give back to the community and have fun at the same time are invited to attend a Volunteer PLAYGuide Orientation Session at the Terre Haute Children’s Museum on Wednesday, January 31 at 4pm. Volunteer PLAYGuides are a vital part of the team at the Terre Haute Children's Museum! They are seen not only as an extension of our staff but one of our most valuable assets. By giving a few hours of your time, you can help make a difference in the lives of the thousands of children and families who will be visiting us throughout the year. PLAYGuides are needed this fall to help engage our guests on our exhibit floor, and because the Museum is open Tuesday through Sunday, we have volunteer PLAYGuide opportunities to fit almost any schedule. The first step to becoming a PLAYGuide is filling out an application. You can download one online at http://thchildrensmuseum.com/wp-content/uploads/PLAYGuide-Volunteer-Application.pdf, or you can pick one up at the Museum during our regular hours of operation. If you would like to fill out the application at the orientation session, we ask that you arrive a few minutes early to complete that paperwork before the orientation begins. Once you complete orientation, you'll be ready to be a PLAYGuide! More details here -->> http://thchildrensmuseum.com/about/playguide/ For more information about the Volunteer PLAYGuide Orientation at the Museum, or for more information about becoming a PLAYGuide, please contact Jamie McDowell at (812) 235-5548 or jmcdowell@terrehautechildrensmuseum.com.
