Found this great article: Health Sparks: Replace Your Coffee Break with a Meditation If Aetna CEO Mark T. Bertolini has his way, a designated meditation room will soon be as commonplace as the coffee room in workplaces across the country. After a near-death experience left him in constant pain a decade ago, Bertolini told The New York Times, he turned to yoga and then mindfulness meditation to find the relief conventional treatments failed to give him. Once he became head of the health insurance giant, Bertolini was eager to share the benefits he experienced with his employees through free yoga and meditation classes. More than a quarter of the 50,000 employees have participated, and the results were so positive that his company began selling the same classes to businesses that contract with Aetna for their insurance. Bertolini said employees experienced a 28 percent reduction in stress levels, a 20 percent improvement in sleep quality, and a 19 percent reduction in pain. And productivity increased by an average of 62 minutes per week for each participant, reported The New York Times. We’re happy to report that here at Learning Strategies employees have been coming together daily for two decades to meditate and practice Spring Forest Qigong. Are you among the 20 million Americans who meditate? If not, consider starting today. Just remember, the key to gaining the most benefit from any meditation practice is the ability to enter a “profound” state of relaxation, says healer and teacher Brian Osborne, who guides many unique meditations in our Aura Seeing course. “This is different than what most consider a relaxed state,” he says. “Profound relaxation means your body is nearly asleep physically. You have no awareness of your physical sensations, but your mind is fully awake and alert.” As you achieve greater and more profound relaxation, your energy vibrates at ever higher frequencies, says Brian. “This acceleration seems counterintuitive. It’s common to think relaxation is a slowing process—slowing your breath and calming your mind. But when your physical body slows, your energetic body speeds up.” It takes a lot of energy to hold tension and stress in your body, he says. “When you let it go, you free your energy to move, and it begins to vibrate at ever-higher frequencies.” This is how you help clear energy blockages from the body to aid healing and how you can enhance your ability to perceive energetic fields—auras—that remain invisible to most people. Whatever type of meditation you engage in, consider these suggestions from Brian to aid your practice. Set your intention or purpose for your meditation and write it down: As I meditate, I release all my stress and mental fatigue. I integrate and harmonize the energy in my body. Be in as comfortable a position as possible. Sit or lie down. Sitting with your feet flat on the ground will help you remain alert. Keep your spine upright when sitting, without pressure on your tailbone. Tuck your chin in a little. Avoid meditating in the room where you normally sleep. You may choose to fall asleep afterward, but be mindful and conscious during the meditation. If you have a tendency to nod off to sleep, be patient with yourself. The more you meditate and balance your energy, the less of an issue this will be. Before meditating give yourself a clear intention of what you are expecting of yourself: I will stay awake and alert during this meditation. If you encounter distractions or noises, acknowledge them and let them pass away as you remain relaxed. When finished, record your experience and observations in a journal to facilitate your awareness, and then enjoy the results of your practice!

Yin Yoga By Donation

Yin Yoga consists of seated and reclining poses that are held for 3-7 minutes at a time. These poses are designed to stimulate your body's natural energy system-called Chi by the Taoists and Prana by the ancient yogis of India. Yin Yoga is like acupressure that you perform on yourself through gentle stretching along the energetic meridians. This style is a wonderful complement to a more active (Yang) yoga practice, as it provides the balance of stillness. Yin Yoga is also extremely helpful for anyone suffering from low energy or stress, as it recharges your batteries and brings harmony to the body and mind. Holding the poses for several minutes at a time also presents the opportunity to begin exploring meditation, or to bring your existing contemplative practice into your yoga. This class is appropriate for all students. Suggested donation of $10
