Founded in 1954, the Cathedral School of St. Jude is an independent, Catholic day school (grades EC2 - 8th). Visit our website: www.cathedralschoolofstjude.org. We welcome comments but will delete posts containing inappropriate language.  The Cathedral School of St. Jude is home to approximately 350 students in EC2 through 8th Grade.

HISTORY:
On September 4, 1954 Cathedral School of St. Jude opened its doors to the first class of students. Day by day, the number of students grew (as well as the campus) and those young minds benefited from the teaching skills and resourcefulness of the Dominican Sisters.

In 1968 when the Diocese of St. Petersburg was established, it was decided that St. Jude Parish become the cathedral and St. Jude Cathedral School was designated. Through the years many founding families have changed, the children have grown and started families of their own and now bright, new faces shine in the classrooms. Because of its strong Catholic foundation, attending St. Jude Cathedral School has become a family tradition.

BELIEFS:
The Cathedral School of St. Jude believes…
•  A variety of instructional approaches challenges students to demonstrate their full potential and individuality.

•  Mutual respect is fostered through the interaction of church, home, school and community.

•  A strong witness to the Gospel message of Jesus encourages students to be responsible and active in their communities.

•  A safe and healthy environment which promotes learning and success is the responsibility of the entire school community.

CURRICULUM:
The Cathedral School of St. Jude embraces the implementation of the Diocesan Curriculum. This curriculum guides our academic program and was developed to lead children to a world beyond school, providing our students with a strong grounding in the Catholic faith and the ability to apply knowledge and skills to an ever-changing technological world.

The Diocesan Curriculum covers Language Arts, Math, Science, Social Studies, Art, Music, Physical Education, and Spanish, as well as a Catholic religion course that encompasses the Four Pillars of the Catechism of the Catholic Church and the guidelines for catechesis set forth by the United States Council of Catholic Bishops (USCCB).

TECHNOLOGY:
Classrooms are equipped with at least 2 brand new computers.  SMARTBOARD technology is present in the classrooms.  A closed-circuit TV system broadcasts the morning news program, run by our students.  Students attend computer technology class once a week in EC3-4th grade and twice a week in 5th-8th grade.  Students learn web design, digital animation, audio editing, digital storytelling, PowerPoint, Word, Publisher, and Excel, among other topics, prior to graduation.

ATHLETICS:
•  Baseball
•  Basketball
•  Flag Football
