Circus Maine brings world-class circus training and performance to the Maine coast, both through our school, and our in-house production company. Circus Maine is committed to bringing the next level of circus arts to New England. From comprehensive training programs for all ages, to ongoing circus performances held right here at Thompson’s Point in Portland, Maine, we are working to define the next direction in circus. From private lessons with master coaches, to session classes designed to accelerate skills and build collaboration with peers, Circus Maine is focused on enabling students to take their training as far as their heart’s desire – whether their goal is to simply build confidence, or build a career.

Contortion Workshop for ages 10+ $40/person SUN 3/18 10am-12pm Bio: Tyler Jacobson has been training circus arts since 2006, starting with handbalancing and contortion at the Great Y! Circus. He soon expanded to hula hoops, diabolo, aerial hoop, and silks. Primarily self-taught while pursuing BAs in English and Spanish at Walla Walla University, he then trained at Kinetic Theory Circus Arts, after which he joined the 2017 national tour of Pippin. He now works freelance, including featured characters at Queen Mary’s Dark Harbor and Chill while also pursuing an MA in Cultural Studies at Claremont Graduate University. Workshop description: Tyler’s contortion technique emphasizes body awareness. With a keen eye for spotting alignment, he aims to teach students how to develop strong and safe flexibility geared towards longevity. He has also developed several methods using various props and metaphors to render training more accessible and more effective for students of all levels, from those still trying to touch their toes to those already sitting on their heads.
