Fox Valley Park District

This 5 vs. 5 recreational soccer league is designed for participants (3Y to 10Y) to utilize the fundamental skills of soccer in game situations. Participants will be placed on teams led by one or two volunteer coaches who will provide instruction in a fun and positive environment! Teams will practice during the week and play one game each Saturday beginning the week of September 9. Stuart Sports Complex Dog Park Update: The issue: The Stuart Sports Complex Dog Park is experiencing wetter than normal conditions as the result of failed drain pipes buried below ground that are likely more than 100 years old. The depressional area in the large dog enclosure has turned into a mudflat with very few plants and some standing water. The results of the mudflat are muddy paws and fur – the potential to create health issues for domestic and wild animals. Additionally, this condition encourages the growth of various algae species, including Blue-Green Algae or Cyanobacteria. As a precaution, the Fox Valley Park District has closed the large dog part of the park to ensure the safety of our four-legged patrons and their owners. The FVPD has proactively tested for the presence of harmful algae and testing revealed that no Blue-Green algae are currently present. The solution: The FVPD is committed to restoring the Dog Park to full use. An investigation is underway to determine the most efficient and cost-saving way to restore the drainage system with as little disruption to the site as possible. The District will test standing water in the event that algal blooms develop.

FVPD Awarded Environmental Grant to Support Open-Space Project - Fox Valley Park District

The Fox Valley Park District has received a $10,000 environmental grant through the annual ComEd Green Region Program to expand pollinator habitat and food sources, while increasing regional native vegetation presence. The project will connect existing prairie by converting nearly 20 acres of turf grass on the Stuart Sports Complex into native wildflower-enriched prairie, which is crucial to the survival of pollinators. Yesterday we placed a light topdressing of sand on all eight Stuart baseball outfields. The sand we add to the turf and soil has a pH level of 6.4, which is optimal for overall plant health and changing the soil profile - leading to better draining soil and root growth. This practice also helps keep the crown of the plant protected as well as few degrees cooler during the hot summer before a heavy topdressing is applied this fall after aerification.
