A place for history and learning. The Gift of History
History serves us in many ways.  It can inspire us with stories of exemplary lives or caution us with tales of human folly and wickedness.  History can inform and educate us by providing the context and perspective that allow us to make thoughtful decisions about the future.  And history has the power to delight and enrich us, enlarging and intensifying the experience of being alive.”
--From the American Association of State and Local History booklet “The Gift of History”

Day two and three of History Rocks Day Camp were the ultimate learning experience! From trains, engineers sounding horns to the children's squeals, and the museum tour, the Depot Museum did not disappoint! Today's visit to the Michelson was equally as fun and engaging. Tomorrow, Starr Home State Historical site. Can't wait!

The people of the Long Ridge community In Harrison County raised $2,800 in the mid-1920s to build a school for their children. They received a $700 grant from the Rosenwald Foundation rural school program. Rosenwald was the founder of Sears-Roebuck. A two-teacher school was built using the "Nashville Plan." Harrison County had at least 21 Rosenwald schools. #RosenwaldSchools #historyrocks https://savingplaces.org/places/rosenwald-schools#.WTs7Y8m1tE4
