SunRail’s contractor Bombardier will be reconstructing the railroad crossing on George Avenue beginning 9:00 p.m. on Friday, April 28, 2017, through 9:00 p.m. on Saturday April 29, 2017. This work includes replacing rail, ballast, and asphalt surface. During this period George Avenue, between U.S. 17-92 and Maitland Avenue, will be closed to through traffic, with Sybelia Parkway as an alternate route. Access to Maitland Presbyterian Church and SunTrust Bank parking lots will be from U.S. 17-92. Offices on George Avenue at Maitland Avenue will be accessible from Maitland Avenue. Variable message boards have been installed to advise motorists of the George Avenue crossing closure. Bombardier will setup additional temporary traffic control as needed.

Maitland Police Department - Florida

The Maitland Police Department, along with law enforcement agencies across the country, will be participating in the upcoming National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day initiative on Saturday, April 29, 2017, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Bring in any of your expired or unwanted prescription drugs to the Maitland Police Department at 1837 Fennel Street for safe disposal.

In addition to Maitland's Bike Maitland event at Maitland Community Park from 10-12:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 6, Healthy Central Florida is hosting five bike events, including a Bike 5 Cities Ride that begins at 8:00 a.m. and a local Maitland ride that begins at 11:00 a.m. Healthy Central Florida also has installed tubes on select bike signs throughout the City. The tubes have copies of bike maps and information about the five bike events in them.

Celebrate Earth Day and Arbor Day at the Maitland Farmers' Market on this Sunday: This family friendly event will feature bounce houses, fun games, and lady bugs. Yes, children will have the opportunity to take home boxes of lady bugs. Additionally, the Utility Department is giving away 45 eighty-gallon composters. At the same date and time, Public Works will be giving away free trees to Maitland residents in celebration of Arbor Day. The offer is valid while supplies last and only one tree per residence. Proof of Maitland residency in the form of a utility bill is required for the tree and composter giveaways. City Landscape Specialist Mike DiClemente will be on-site to answer questions about trees and tree care.

To inaugurate the city's new trails and celebrate National Bike Month, the City of Maitland is sponsoring the Bike Maitland Event. From 10:00 a.m. through 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 6, 2017, at the Maitland Community Park, Maitland's family friendly bicycle event will be a celebration of bicycling in the community. There will be a stilt walker, DJ, face painter, unicycle juggler, and bounce house. Tower 47 will make an appearance as well as other first response vehicles for a touch-a-truck event. MPD and MFRD will host helmet and bicycle accessories giveaways. Food and fun will be in abundance.
