More than its stalwart crew, the Port works for the community as an economic driver for a variety of industries and businesses within Longview and the surrounding area. The Port of Longview creates jobs, supports local programs and contributes revenue back to the community to continually improve the qualify of life for its residents.

On a larger scale, the Port works for national and worldwide commerce. Serving as the connection point between Washington's exports and the rest of the world, the Port of Longview makes international trade possible, whereby supporting the global economy as well as our national infrastructure.

The National Turkey Federation — yes, there is such a thing — did a survey a couple years ago and concluded 88 percent of Americans eat turkey for Thanksgiving. This year, the federation predicted we would eat 45 million turkeys on Thanksgiving Day. Today, Port of Longview’s Board of Commissioners unanimously approved the 2018 Budget, which includes a 20% property tax reduction for residents of the Port District! “The Port is in a healthy financial position that allows us to cut taxes again this year,” said Commission President Doug Averett. “Strong cargo operations and business partnerships have situated the Port in a very favorable position. My fellow Commissioners and I want to share this success with our community.”

Berth 9 is home to the newest grain terminal built in the United States since 1983 - leased and operated by EGT (Export Grain Terminal). Here, soybeans, wheat, corn and soybean meal bound for countries around the Pacific Rim are exported year round for food or animal feed. Last year, EGT exported upwards of 6 million metric tons of cargo and are on track for another very successful year.

Did you know the Port of Longview was original named the Port of Kelso? Originally established in 1921 on the Cowlitz River, the Port relocated to its current Longview location in 1927.
