Here's a quick recap after the 2017 Prep Bowl: 1. We scrimmaged against Owatonna who won the 5A Prep Bowl and Champlin Park who lost to Eden Prairie 34-24 in the section final (EP's toughest game in the playoffs). 2. Our final season record was 4-6. Four of our losses were to teams who made the state tournament including Minnetonka who made it to the Prep Bowl. Our other 2 losses were to teams who played in the section final. We talked throughout the entire season about the importance of turnover margin. In over 20+ years of coaching, there is a direct correlation to turnover margins and record. Our goal was to be +10 on the season to make it to state and +16 to win the state championship. We ended the season +4. In our 4 wins, we were +7. In our 4 worst losses, we were -7. It will continue to be a focus for our program every season. Thanks again to the seniors for all you accomplished this season. Thanks for your commitment to the program and congratulations on making it to the section final game. We are looking forward to honoring you at the banquet this Sunday. For you underclassmen, it has been a very disappointing start to the offseason. We currently have 3 juniors, 4 sophomores and 6 freshman football players out for wrestling. We have 6 juniors, 5 sophomores, and 11 freshman football players signed up for Olympic weightlifting. We will never become a championship program with those low numbers. It's still not too late to register and join the people who are committed to maximizing their full potential as an athlete this winter. The way to catch and pass programs like Eden Prairie is to out-work them. Watch this interview of EP player Antonio Montero after the Prep Bowl: https://youtu.be/G4s6DcQvc3Q Watch this interview of Coach Grant after the Prep Bowl: https://youtu.be/DJRBOCxTJok Notice a theme? The biggest, fastest and most physical team in the state of Minnesota has won 11 state championships in the past 20 years. It's not an accident. They won those championships in the weight room, training together. They are almost all multi-sport athletes. They're not going to personal trainers, and they're not going to outside gyms. They play sports together in the winter and spring and train together in their weight room. Then they win together in US Bank Stadium. Eden Prairie will have 50+ sophomore and junior football players in the weight room tomorrow training to win the 2018 Prep Bowl. How many will we have? How hard are you willing to work to be a champion?

Our 14 days of rest at the end of the season are officially over. It's time to get back to work. Championships are won in the offseason. Lakeville South has a reputation for student-athletes not training together in the offseason. We want all of our football players in a winter sport so they can train and compete at a championship level. The expectation is that all football players will compete on a winter sports team that uses our weight room. Good luck to all of you who have started playing hockey or basketball. For anyone not playing those sports, wrestling is a non-cut sport and is great for football. Our first choice is that you would try wrestling. Coach Fornicoia has extended an offer for any football players to give wrestling a try. You can register for wrestling by going to https://isd194.feepay.com/. If you're not going to wrestle, the Lakeville South Weightlifting team welcomes all of those interested in joining the team from 6th grade up through 12th grades. This is a non-cut sport and welcomes and needs all ages, weight classes (sizes). There are buses from McGuire and Kenwood to the high school every day after school. Here is the information about that team: Practice Times and Days: 3:20 – 4:50 PM on M, T, Th, F for high school age and M, W, F for middle school age Website with information about meets, weight classes, age groups: mnweightlifting.org Fees to pay at http://www.USAWeightlifting.org USA Weightlifting membership: (required): Age 17 and under $30 (Youth) Age 18 and up (at any time during the year) $40 Lakeville South Club Fee for School:(required) $45 Site: https://isd194.feepay.com/ Lakeville South Weightlifting Booster Club Fee (required): $80 for high school or $60 for middle school Bring check to Coach Sahli or Coach Rousemiller Make check payable to Lakeville South Weightlifting Booster Club We will see all of you at a practice on Monday.
