The CareerBuilder Challenge, formerly the Bob Hope Classic & Humana Challenge, has been a PGA TOUR event since 1960. The event takes place in January in La Quinta, CA. The CareerBuilder Challenge is a 72-hole PGA TOUR event that every January, features 156 of the world’s best golfers playing for a $5.8 million purse. It is part of the FedExCup Playoffs and often provides the winners of the event a precursor to a successful season. Pat champions include World Golf Hall-of-Famers Arnold Palmer, Billy Casper, Johnny Miller and Phil Mickelson, and PGA TOUR favorites Patrick Reed, Charley Hoffman, Bill Haas, and Jason Dufner.

As one of the few tournaments contested on more than one course, the CareerBuilder Challenge is played at the famed Stadium Course at PGA WEST, the Nicklaus Tournament Course at PGA WEST and the venerable La Quinta Country Club, a course that once featured President Dwight Eisenhower as a member. Eisenhower’s involvement as a presenter set a precedent for Presidential participation in the pro-am event, for many years later, Gerald Ford, George H.W. Bush and Bill Clinton -- who played while in office and whose foundation is now a valued partner – all played in the event.

The tournament continues to honor the memory of Bob Hope, who became the tournament host in 1965 and served as a constant presence until his passing in 2003 at age 100. Every year, the winner is presented with the Bob Hope Trophy, and proceeds from the event are distributed to charity.

Since its inception, Desert Classic Charities, the charitable entity that organizes the CareerBuilder Challenge, a PGA TOUR event in the Coachella Valley, has contributed more than $58 million to a wide range of Coachella Valley charitable organizations and Eisenhower Medical Center. The scope of giving is broad and includes support for structured and mentoring programs for children, social services, and food and safe shelter for the less fortunate.
