Let's go SHOPPING for some HISTORY! Our #ThrowbackThursday features the Miller's Building, now home to Bliss & Tori Mason Shoes and Cruze Farm. 🛍️ The flagship Miller's Department Store was built on Gay Street in 1905, 7 stories high. If someone shopped, they shopped at Miller’s, Knoxville’s most popular department store! It remained there until 1972 when Miller’s opened its West Town Mall store. 😬 A developer associated with the mall bought the building and attempted to “modernize” it by stripping its masonry detail and covering it with reflective glass. 😁 But yay! In 1998, Knoxville Utilities Board and the City of Knoxville - Government saved the Miller’s Building, renovated, and restored the original exterior, stripping off the glass taking great care to restore it to its original state. 👚 Coming full circle, clothing boutique and jewelry store Bliss & Tori Mason Shoes opened in the Miller's Building in 2017. They've received accolades for being Knoxville's best gift store...plus super-cute clothes and shoes. The building is also home to Cruze Farm, Regions Bank, Moxley Carmichael, and more. 📷 http://www.thedepartmentstoremuseum.org/
